I did have a huge list here but I've cut it down to the important few.
My Dad - Started me singing, started me playing guitar. Need I say more.
Mark Knopfler - A massive influence, the man is an absolute flippin genius. both on guitar and lyrically. It's a long way looking up to him but he's been playing for 50 years so I figure I have 47 to catch up ;)
Cat Stevens - Again, the man's a genius. More lyrically inspiring for me than the majority of modern artists.
Eric Clapton - In my opinion second only to Knopfler, and my God is it a bloody close second! If you've seen him play wonderful tonight live you'll know what I mean!
Dad - Started me off singing at the age of about 6 in the kitchen at home. Got me to pick up a guitar and taught me my first chord. If it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't be here now. If I've got something new I often run it past Dad who actually listens which is rather nice =P Cheers Dad =)
Mum - Any woman who can tolerate me and my dad singing in the kitchen deserves a mention =P My Mum's been there for me through thick and thin. At times when I didn't think I was any good at anything or didn't know what to do or where to turn my Mum's always been my light in the dark. Plus she now has to put up with my non stop playing! Thanks Mum =)
My sister. She really should have her own music page because her voice is incredible (though she WILL dispute that fact at all costs). She's the one I put all my new songs to; If she doesn't like them then they generally don't see the ligt of day lol. Plus she's my little sis =) There whenever I need her to be and there when I don't. Cheers Nat =)
Now onto probably the most influential person in my life. My Grandad. There was never a single second where the man doubted anything I could do; even when everyone else did. If I needed anything he was always there, both materially and emotionally. He worked so hard for his entire life to make sure everyone in the family didn't go without and we never did, I owe him so much and I truly hope that one day I'll be able to make him as proud as he made me.
Last but by no means least, my best mate Dave. We've been through sooooo much crap recently but to put it bluntly, if I need someone I know Dave's always there. Hopefully he's already realised this but he's far more than a music producer, he's the best mate any bloke could ask for. Through his music production skills and industry know-how he's given me the ability to get my music out there. Watch this space, he will go places...and he'll drag me with him kicking and screaming...with any luck =D
Onto the songs...
I usually find myself writing songs about every day stuff really. Music is my way of putting across things which maybe I couldn't say in words or find difficult to put into words. It's my way of giving the world a small look into what I'm thinking and where I've been. Plus my memory's terrible so if I write a song about something I'll always be able to look back on it when I'd have forgotten it if I hadn't. I generally don't like saying what my songs mean, a song can mean one thing to someone and something completely different to someone else. Everyone tends to place a meaning to a song even if the song was written about something completely different. As Clapton once said 'that is the beauty of music'
Thanks for reading =) I hope you like the songs.
