My family, singing, golf, poker, great food, good wine and specialty beers, watching my favorite sports teams with buddies (the HOKIES, the Braves, the Falcons, the Steelers), fishing, having an unbelievably good time with my closest friends.
Music
Favorite styles of music: jazz, rock, country, pop, soul. Some of my favorite vocal artists: Kurt Elling, New York Voices, Frank Sinatra, Chet Baker, The Real Group, Al Jarreau, Garth Brooks, Rascal Flatts, Lonestar, Phil Vassar, Justin Timberlake, Daniel Bedingfield...ANYONE who can really, REALLY sing. Trust me folks, there aren't that many REAL vocalists out there.
Movies
There are too many I would like to name, but some of my all time favorites would have to be: Cinderella Man, The Matrix Trilogy, O Brother Where Art Thou, High Strung, Tommy Boy, The Shawshank Redemption, The Goodbye Girl (Dreyfuss version), Pulp Fiction, The Program, Napoleon Dynamite, Forrest Gump, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Sling Blade, Bruce Almighty, It's a Wonderful Life, Saving Private Ryan, Fully Extended Lord of the Rings trilogy, Predator, the Terminator trilogy, Jaws I and II, and Star Wars Episodes I-VI. The Dark Knight is now a new favorite of mine. Great movie!!!
JibJab - Shawshank in a Minute
Television
"Friends" was my favorite TV show by far. Now that new episodes have gone away, I like Law and Order re-runs, Family Guy, SpongeBob Squarepants, Will and Grace, World Poker Tour, Everybody Loves Raymond
Books
I spend the entirety of my day reading and staying up with all the latest tax laws, financial regulations, and new products, strategies, etc. for my industry --- so reading for pleasure ain't my thang!
Heroes
All our troops, and all of those who have served our country in uniform...especially the ones who have made the ultimate sacrifice. We need to remember that our freedom isn't free.

About me: ..
What can I say about myself? Well, I'm a good ole' God-fearing southern boy, I guess! People know me as a singer. My close friends know me as "Matty"...a fun, dependable and generous guy. I grew up in South Carolina and Virginia playing football, baseball, and running track...and I've been singing since I was 10. I graduated from Midlothian High School near Richmond, VA in 1995 and then from Virginia Tech in 2000 and 2001. Go Hokies, baby! My degree work was in Vocal Jazz Performance and in Financial Planning. I'm now a Financial Advisor by trade, but I still love to sing and dance. Right now, I'm spending all my free time performing in local shows for many different production companies. What else can I tell you about me? I've put out a couple of albums, one of which received substantial airplay on radio stations nationwide. I was proud of that, although I only heard myself on the radio (on an NPR Jazz Hour) just once. Talk about a trippy experience! I've sang and danced in shows for Paramount theme parks, headed big bands, and was in a professional a capella vocal quintet called "Sound Advice" for 5 years. I've done a lot of other interesting things in life - I've traveled almost everywhere you can think of...I've made a lot of very cool friends, performed in a ton of different venues, and had a blast just living life. I'm also an avid golfer and a poker player. My life transitioned to central coast California out of Salt Lake City, UT in 2006 where I had been a "transplant" from Virginia when I moved there in 2002. While I was in Utah, I co-owned a financial services business with my father. Now I live in Grover Beach, CA a few blocks from the beach.
Here I am playing John Utterson in Chameleon Productions version of the Broadway smash-hit musical, Jekyll & Hyde, which played at The Clark Center in Arroyo Grande, CA this past June. Enjoy!
Who I'd like to meet: Garth Brooks, Billy Joel, (musical heroes), Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson (golf heroes), Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson (poker heroes).
I appreciate the good wishes. '08 was a wild ride for many. There will be a lot of "re-building" going on in '09. I wish you all the best as well. And my best to Vicki and Bob.
