Matvei Sigalov was born in Samara , Russia and since his early childhood music has been the main focus in his life . Classically trained on a violin from the age of six he became interested in rock music during his teens and started playing guitar . Later , in his early twenties , Matvei first became exposed to jazz and it became the start of a musical journey , that , eventually , led him to the United States . Since his arrival to the US 8 years ago , he's been very active on the East Coast music scene and established himself as one of he premier improvising violinists . He has shared the stage with a wide array of artists , covering a lot of different styles - from R&B , Gospel and Pop-Rock to Jazz , Brazilian music , Fusion etc. The list of names and venues goes on and on - playing for Patti LaBelle , Isaac Hayes and James Ingram at the Kennedy Center in DC , getting a standing ovation at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore , while opening up for Stanley Clarke , Jean-Luke Ponty and Al Di Meola , wowing the audience at the Iridium in NYC with guitar legend Les Paul . Matvei lives in the Washington DC area and continues making a mark on a music scene working with the best area musicians - Paul Pieper , Allyn Johnson , Young Lions and others , being recognized not only as a violin player , but also as an original composer and a guitarist .
