Maudslay Thursday

A monthly dose of folk and roots upstairs at the Maudslay Pub, Allesley Old Road, Coventry

What?
Maudslay Thursday is based upstairs at the Maudslay pub in Coventry. Concerts take place on the second Thursday of every month and features the finest folk and roots acts from the UK and beyond.

Where?
The Maudslay can be found on Allesley Old Road, Coventry. If you have a sat-nav, punch in CV5 8GJ. Just before the junction with Four Pounds Avenue, it's the large pub-shaped thing with ‘The Maudslay' written outside it.

When?
The second Thursday in every month is a Maudslay Thursday. Doors open at 7.30 and the music kicks off at 8.00. There'll normally be a short support act (or a tall one, depending on budget) then the main act will play ‘til around 10.45.

Who?
Well, we asked The Who, but they were busy. So unfortunately you'll have to make do with the likes of Phil Beer, Vin Garbutt, PJ and Peggy, Swarb's Lazarus, Les Barker, Tanglefoot and other such layabouts.

Whereabouts?
No, layabouts. Pay attention.

So what's a Maudslay?
It's a make of car. They used to make lots of cars in Coventry once upon a time. Then, around the late 70's-early 80's, they stopped making money out of making cars and it all went a bit pear-shaped.

A bit like folk clubs, then?
Kind of. But car manufacturing got shipped overseas and continued to make money. Folk clubs didn't. But they carried on anyway.

So is Maudslay Thursday a folk club then?
Shhhhh! Don't mention the F word! Maudslay Thursday is a club that puts on excellent acoustic music that happens to be largely traditional, that's all.

Acoustic'? ‘Traditional'? Don't they add up to ‘folk'?
Who am I supposed to be – Ralph Vaughan Williams?! Look, I can't arse about all day doing this. Are you interested or not? I've told you where, when and who. What else do you need to know?

Why?
Ah. An easy one. Because we've booked some of the finest exponents of folk, roots, trad, call-it-what-you-want music that are currently available and put them in one of the most acoustically perfect venues you could hope to find. All you need to do is turn up and be entertained!

How do I book?
Call Lucy on 07535 130975 for tickets. Alternatively, drop us an email at maudslaythursday@yahoo.co.uk

Quo Vadis?
...Is a very nice Italian restaurant about 10 minutes up the road in Coundon. The pub does food as well though and there are several other places to eat in the vicinity.
