UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS
BARYSHNIKOV & LAGUNA
in Three Solos and a Duet
Thursday, September 17, 7:30 pm, Castle Theater
Maui Arts & Cultural Center in association with Baryshnikov Arts Center presents "Three Solos and a Duet" with Ana Laguna and Mikhail Baryshnikov in works by today’s leading ballet choreographers Mats Ek, Benjamin Millepied and Alexei Ratmansky. A program of pure dance captures Baryshnikov’s remarkable physical presence and, together with Laguna, a lifetime of experience that informs every gesture, every movement. Noted The New York Times, the performance is “portraits of the dancer as mature artist, one with remarkable physical clarity.” Mikhail Baryshnikov is collaborating on new ‘material for an adult’ that sometimes has the dancer playfully competing with his younger self portrayed in film behind him. Still able to whip through spiraling off-balance jumps, Baryshnikov and Ms. Laguna were met by standing ovations at his sold-out performances across Europe.
