Maura Kennedy was born Maura Boudreau in Syracuse NY, home of a fantastic live, original music scene when she was a teenager. She played in many different bands, on different instruments while she was in her formative years: bass guitar in punk and heavy metal bands, keyboards and acoustic guitar in a British Folk Rock band, guitar and mandolin in a roots-rock band. She found her true calling with her now husband, Pete Kennedy back in 1993, when she joined Pete as part of Nanci Griffith's backup band on a 2 month world tour. When that tour was over, The Kennedys was born, and the duo have been traveling, writing and recording ever since. Their tenth album, "Better Dreams" is released on 1/22/08. To mark this anniversary, both Pete and Maura have decided to put up solo myspace pages, where they hope to offer music to their fans outside the scope of The Kennedys. Great show at the Bull Run last Sat. night. I somehow missed Shadows of the Lonely when you first posted it here - incredible - it was like you were channelling Patsy. Will you give the song the full treatment (strings, steel guitar, etc. ) on your CD, I wonder? :-)
Just wanted to let you know that I think "The Thing with Feathers" is simply brilliant. If not your best, it is surely on the short list. Also I certainly respect your feeling that you like Mates of State better than the Beatles and the Ramones. However, I would question whether they will have the same staying power, ie, will you still remember them in 20 years, say. Just a thought.
Best of luck in your quest for the Kindle! Congratulations to the Syracuse Orangemen for making the Sweet Sixteen. I trust they are in your bracket. On another subject entirely, I am eagerly awaiting the release of your CD.
