Maureen Lupo Lilanda
She is known locally as Aunty Maureen, she is a true Diva in Zambian music, her excellent technique and years of experience singing different music styles as soul, jazz, cabaret, traditional and world music has made her a unique singer. Her music is warm, vibrant, and soulful; she covers decades of African inspiration, from Miriam Makeba to Angelique Kidjo but is nicely grounded in her motherland Zambia. Some of her songs are homegrown – they are a piece of Zambian soil, traditional music that has been through a musical blender of jazz, soul and various African music styles (rumba, kisumba, kalendula, Mbalax etc.) Other songs are from Maureens own hand, African contemporary, soul ballads, pop and reggae. Maureen has a powerful and entertaining stage performance, she can move any audience, spread joy and good vibes, all embraced by stories from real life in Africa– don´t miss this experience
Maureen Lupo Lilanda was born on 24th April 1967 in Lusaka, capital of Zambia. She is the second born in the family of two brothers and four sisters and did both primary and secondary education in Lusaka, then later obtained a Diploma in Journalism. She is a mother of four children: two biological and two surrogate.
Maureen Lupo Lilanda, ‘Mama Zambia' or fondly known in Zambia as ‘Aunty Maureen' is a singer, song writer and performer. Endurance, patience and generosity characterize Maureen best. For the past twenty years, she has traveled extensively both locally and internationally, consistently grabbing the attention of her listeners and fans. Increasing her genre from subdued cabaret/jazz singer to an African vocalist, Maureen blends modern beats and rhythms with authentic sounds and tastes of Zambia.
