   About Maurice Chammah

I play violin, guitar, bass, and/or keys in Tristero (Austin), as well as with friends in Ithaca, NY. In the past, I've played with the Red Armada Quartet, The Bishop Elect, and the Golden Hornet Project. This page is just for me to put my own music, whatever it might be. I used to live in Austin, but now I spend most of my year in Ithaca, NY, studying music, sound, and the Middle East, among other things.

If you like singing and guitars, listen to In White or When we Lose Color
If you like talking and violins, listen to A Completed Portrait of Picasso
If you like Rihanna, listen to Umbrella

Aurélien Pétillot, violist and artistic director, presents the inaugural concert of the non-profit organization VIOLA BY CHOICE which seeks to showcase the originality, versatility and importance of the viola and its glorious repertoire through engaging, accessible, and bonding chamber music performances by the foremost local and visiting musicians. The concert “Viola confessions: Composers exposed,” will celebrate some of the most illustrious composers in history who not only wrote for viola, but were violists themselves. It will feature duets by Mozart and Beethoven, Bach’s 6th Brandenburg Concerto, Hindemith’s revolutionary Sonata for Solo Viola Op.25/1, and Paganini’s Trio Concertante for viola, cello and guitar. With special guest appearance by John Largess, violist from the Miró Quartet, alongside James Brown (viola da gamba), Elise Winters (violin), Margaret Coltman and Jonathan Dexter (cello), Jessica Valls (double-bass), and Jonathan Dotson (guitar).
Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 8 pm. Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest, Christ Chapel. 31st Street and Duval, Austin 78705. $8/students, $15/general admission, at the door.

It wishes to foster sincere and lasting cultural and personal exchanges with as diverse and broad an audience as it can reach and touch, within and beyond Austin’s vibrant community, whether in traditional or more progressive venues. The viola is the perfect symbol of irresistible, boundless beauty too often concealed. As such it is the hope of VIOLA BY CHOICE that it will encourage all to awaken, embrace, and share their inner viola, while reconnecting with each other and to Music.
