“It’s a singer/songwriter with a hardcore drummer with an alternative punk bassist with a metal guitar player. What people twist out of that is their business.”- Maurice Davis
When Maurice Davis moved from Texas to New Jersey and signed with his music manager he didn't have a band. The first member to join the group was Justin Troster who at the time worked for an indie record label and as Maurice will tell you with a laugh, after their first practice together Maurice was not so convinced that Justin was the right guy for the job. Maurice says, “He played too much and too loud. It’s like each drum was a kid and he didn’t want to leave any of them out so he hit them all as often as he could!” But Maurice gave it some time and has now found Justin to be the only one to fit the bill. Next to follow was Jim O’Kean, a bass player out of north jersey whose feel for rhythm is unmistakable. Jim’s father called the office of a local record label in an attempt to have them talk his son out of playing music. But it just so happened that Maurice Davis Band had just lost their bassist and gave Jim an audition instead. Asked to describe their music Maurice says, “It’s a singer/songwriter with a hardcore drummer with an alternative punk bassist. What people twist out of that is their business.” The band is currently recording the debut album in Dallas, Texas set to be released in 2010.
