TRANCE CIRCULAR GROOVE
Grooves that repeat themselves in a circular fashion, inspired by the cycle of life and death, tribal rhythm, clashing sounds opposed to a magical atmosphere. This is “Trance Circular Groove”, Maurizio Boco's first cd as soloist, former drummer of artists such as Mimmo Locasciulli, Amii Stewart, Formula Tre, Patty Pravo. The cd was born from a project completely created and projected by Boco, and it can be considered the result of a musical research to discover the polirhythmic and politimbric potential of the drum. Boco's work is in fact based, as the title anounces, on the circular repetition of some grooves, to put the listener in a state of trance. The author overlaps among them different rhythms, mixing them in circular sequences and using the numerous sounds available on his musical instrument. From a compositional point of view, the choice of using electronic musical instruments is blended into the tribal element of the rhythm, to create an interaction between past and future: ancestrial rhythm as a form of language and comunication, and the cosmos, space, technology, trascendence. The cd is made up of three tracks. The first is title track, a long suite lasting over 30 minutes, divided into 13 movements, in which the words, written by Pamela Gargiuto and inspired by an idea of Maurizio Boco, are united to the music. The lyric vaguely remeniscent of Lovecraft and Poe, authors always loved by Boco, having an autobiographical origin. In fact it is about the circular cycle of life and death, elements characterizing life of composer in the last years, with passing of his mother, Sara, and the birth of his first daughter, Sara. The cd is dedicated to them. Special Guest is Derek Sherinian, Los Angeles keyboardist, ex Dream Theater and actual leader of Planet X. Moussa, the Algerian singer is a guest in final part. The second track is a drum solo titled 5/4. The third, Africa, can be considered Boco's tribute to afro-cuban culture, believed to be the mother-culture of every drummer. It is an electronic-tribal piece with Boco at the drum-set, Giovanni Imparato on percussion and voice, Stefano Sastro on synthesizer and with collaboaration of Giovanni Vigliar with his electronic violin: many people will remember him in the historic jazz-rock italian band Arti & Mestieri. The realization of the cd, besides the already mentioned Pamela Gargiuto (violin and voice) Fabrizio Sciannameo on bass, and Mike Applebaum on trumpet. From a technical point of view it is important to note that the drums are recorded without overdubbing. All the cd has been composed with the creative interaction between Boco and other musicians, following completely the compositional method of the author. “Trance Circular Groove” marks a unifying moment in the musical career of it's author. “It is an ideal point of contact among the music I to during the year of my training, and the study of instrumental technique that held a fundamental rule in my training as a musician” comments the composer.

A drummer busy in teaching area since a long time, Maurizio Boco estabilishes the “Fonderia delle Arti” in 2006, a multifunctional structure in the didactic field, that unites music, acting and audiovisuals, near the center of Rome.
He began his career as a sideman in 1984, collaborating with artists such as Mimmo Locasciulli, Amii Stewart, Formula Tre, Patty Pravo, Massimo Di Cataldo, Albano & Romina Power, Bobby Solo.
He recorded some cd's of progressive-rock music and fusion like Dino Kappa Project "Summit", Tony Carnevale "III movimento" and "Live" with special guest Francesco Di Giacomo and Rodolfo Maltese of most famous Progressive rock band Banco del Mutuo Soccorso. He is the author of two didactical videos “Rivolgersi alle casse” and “Ciak si suona” (order by e-mail through this myspace).
In the last years he is particularly busy in the research about the potential of the drum as a soloist, that he presents in his drum clinic around Italy supported by his sponsor Tama and Ufip.
Currently he is dedicating himself to his new trio progressive-metal BFH, with Fabrizio Sciannameo on bass and Mats Hedberg on the guitar, with who pubblished the cd “The Gate” (order by e-mail through this myspace).
His first cd as soloist “Trance Circular Groove” is just pubblished, with Derek Sherinian (Planet X, Dream Theater) on the keyboard as guest (order by e-mail through this myspace).
He is the president of Drummers United, the association of Italian drummers and percussionists.
Of recent publication the DVD Tempi Moderni published by Carish Editrice produced by Drummers United in occasion of the concert organized in september 2003 in which included a live performance of Maurizio Boco taken from Trance Circular Groove suite.
Ho iniziato la carriera come molti amici e colleghi collaborando con artisti di musica pop. Mi piace ricordare tra loro Amii Stewart, Mimmo Locasciulli, Patty Pravo, Formula Tre, Massimo Di Cataldo.
Ho avuto il piacere anche di registrare alcuni cd ai quali mi sento particolarmente legato principalmente in ambito fusion e rock progressivo. Cito con piacere "Summit" del Dino Kappa Project (praticamente introvabile) e "III Movimento" e "Live" di Tony Carnevale con ospiti Francesco di Giacomo e Rodolfo Maltese del Banco del Mutuo Soccorso
Da diversi anni mi dedico quasi esclusivamente alla didattica e ai miei progetti musicali che presento in pubblico anche attraverso clinic.
Dal 2003 sono endorser Tama (vedi catalogo internazionale) e Ufip dal 1984.
I temi che tratto nelle mie clinic sono la tecnica della doppia cassa, improvvisazione su ostinato,
tempi dispari e poliritmie, uso melodico del drum set.

Nel 2003 ho prodotto con l'Associazione Drummers United il DVD "Tempi Moderni" distribuito dalla Carish. Alcuni tra i più importanti batteristi e percussionisti italiani in un unico entusiasmante raduno tenutosi a Roma.
Nel 2006 ho fondato a Roma, insieme ad alcuni amici musicisti e attori, la Fonderia delle Arti, centro polivalente che comprende una scuola di musica, teatro e musical, fotografia, cinema, sale prove e studio di registrazione.
