Louise Gauvreau a.k.a Maus was raised by jazz and disco music-freaks. She is the queen of mashed potatoes and once dreamed to be Barry White's wife. She was also acclaimed world-wide in URB (The Next 100 - 2001), CODA, Mixer, XLR8R and Wax magazines for crossing lines, breaking through categories and defying expectations.
Back in 1997, under the moniker of Mouse Factory, Louise started to organize events in Montreal, inviting local and international talent with the simple intention of sharing and playing the sound she fell for. In 1999, she had already opened for David Bowie, Moby, St-Germain and Rony Size. In 2000, her eloquently mixed debut CD Intersections (Haute Couture Records, 2000), featuring artists such as Omni Trio, Amon Tobin, Plug and Tee Bee, clearly demonstrated many crossroads of the D&B movement. Establishing Maüs as a substantial contributor to the scene, Intersections earned her an honourable ranking on URB Magazine's NEXT 100 List and left a strong impression to the worldwide press. The Intersections tour included Barcelona’s Sonar Festival, Les Francofolies de Larochelle, MEG Festival, Paris (Batofar), Lisbon (Lux), London, Prague and Budapest.
In 2001, while she was one of the main resident at SONA afterhours, the club's label commissioned her to mix the compilation for Montreal's annual Cream Festival, Cream CD3 (YUL Records) further showcasing her now predominant minimal-tech and tech-house sound. Her signature is deep and percussive with a solid groove that keeps you dancing and a soulful touch that keeps you dreaming.
From 2002-2006, Maus held a residency in the main room of Montreal’s after hours, ARIA playing alongside artists such as Laurent Garnier, Booka Shade, Trentemöller, Green Velvet and Loco Dice.
“A petite young lady with a surprising force, Maus took over and gave the crowd what they had been waiting for. From ethereal soul tracks to slightly twisted sounds, her energetic presence behind the decks carried through Aria’s speakers stacks in a way that I haven’t heard for quite some time” - Chad Eccleston, Xpander Magazine / Green Velvet and DJ Maus @ Aria afterhours, Montreal.
In 2006, realizing she couldn’t see things otherwise, Maus decided to back off a little from the “DJ giging thing” and dedicate most of her time learning music production. Today, after a few collaborations, a remix for legendary cold- wave band Trisomie 21 (The man is a Mix - Chromo Music, FR 2004) and a few of her titles on various projects, she is signing her second project on canadian techno label, Thoughtless Music. You can hear her voice on most of her work and some collaborations including Leo Cruz’s Disco Musique (Saboteur Musique) and Blanali’s Victim (Techsound records, Colombia) which is available on Beatport.com. Maus’ first live set was heard at Montreal's Intl Jazz Festival in 2005 with ex Voivod bass player, Gilles Brisebois. On March 7th 2008, she was invited to headline renowned “Nocturnes” at Montreal’s Contemporary Museum (MACM) for her second live performance…
Today, Maüs continues to charm international audiences with her dynamic approach to electronic dance music. She travels her country and plays regularly in Europe and Dominican Republic. She also co-heads microzoo, an ever-growing company that focuses on producing small but high quality minimal-techno events. microzoo invited artists such as Berkson & What (Poker Flat), MyMy (Playhouse, Ge), (Playhouse), 3 Channels (Trenton, Crosstown Rebels, Channels…) and Pig & Dan (Cocoon, Spain).
