I severely need to catch up in this department, but I used to read a ton of sci-fi (mostly Asimov), Robert Anton Wilson (yeah, he's kind of his own thing), Umberto Eco, all kinds of works considered "classic" or "fundamental", etc.
Currently I'm reading Love in the Time of Cholera, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Next on my list is Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut (no, somehow I never managed to read it).
In general, I'll be reading a lot of these two and Jose Saramago.
Heroes
Don Quixote, Batman, Hamlet, Frederick, Isaac Asimov, Sarah Vowell, David Sedaris, Ira Glass, Garrison Keillor, Michael Feldman, Richard P. Feynman, Ray Harryhausen and Odysseus

About me: I have two really neat children, 10 and 6. I received my B.S. in Multimedia (Digital) Arts at the University of Oregon a while back. Check out my portfolio site, m o d e r n k r a f t, and my bookmarks at del.icio.us. I'm slowly discovering that yes, I can do art, after years of convincing myself I couldn't.
I feel it is a very terrible thing that they teach evolution in school. Frankly, it's blasphemy, and a great insult to the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I feel it's very very important that we teach intelligent design in school so everyone will come to understand the truth about how the Flying Spaghetti Monster created the universe and life as we know it, and the heathens will all be saved! Hallelujah!
“It would be a dangerous undertaking for persons trained only to the law, to constitute themselves final judges of the worth of pictorial illustrations.”
-- Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.
"Never increase, beyond what is necessary, the number of entities required to explain anything."
-- William of Ockham
"Be what you are, bury what you are not...Ticket stubs are trickery. Saving things is a magic trick, with mirrors."
-- Ray Bradbury
"I read the other day some verses written by an eminent painter which were original and not conventional. The soul always hears an admonition in such lines, let the subject be what it may. The sentiment they instill is of more value than any thought they may contain. To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men, — that is genius. Speak your latent conviction, and it shall be the universal sense; for the inmost in due time becomes the outmost,—— and our first thought is rendered back to us by the trumpets of the Last Judgment."
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Men always want to be a woman's first love. That is their clumsy vanity. We women have a more subtle instinct about things. What (women) like is to be a man's last romance."
-- Oscar Wilde
There is a curious paradox
Which no one can explain;
Who understands the secret of the reaping of the grain?
Who understands why spring is borne of winter's laboring pain?
And why we all must die a bit
Just to grow again?"
-- from The Fantasticks
"Ships at a distance have every man's wish on board. For some they come in with the tide. For others they sail forever on the horizon, never out of sight, never landing, until the Watcher turns his eyes away in resignation, his dreams mocked to death by Time. That is the life of men. Now, women forget all those things they don't want to remember, and remember everything they don't want to forget. The dream is the truth. They then act and do things accordingly."
-- Zora Neale Hurston
Who I'd like to meet: The man in the moon. And other geeks and artists/art nuts. Or maybe just plain nuts? Salted? Beer?
both my hands are broken. i look at them and all to be seen is scar tissue, the rich relational history reduced to current dysfunction. like choking on one's own tongue. a more apt analogy than i'm really comfortable with admitting (to myself), my personal pathology of language has always been limited though. yesterday i went to an orientation at the independent publishing resource center (iprc) and was *gasp* inspired. but i need a producer: you.
Indeed, you DID just post cool quotations... that Emerson one... of them all, that's the one that jumps out at me most (at least, at this particular moment in time).
Hey you, I am shocked you have no comments, so I decided to show you some love ;-) I dig the profile song too. Hope you are well, and even getting better.
