HEY MAVIS FRIENDS & FANS!! While this is Mavis's official MySpace page, and she tries to read all the messages she gets forwarded from here, she can't always get to them all or reply when she wants to, especially when she is on the road. She does read the Comments most days, so if you want to say 'Hi!' best way is to please leave a SHORT omment. Thanks!

Order We'll Never Turn Back: (Details).
-----------------------------------------------------
On Monday June 23rd a lucky few Chicagoans were treated to an intimate performance at the Hideout by the leading lady of protest, Mavis Staples. Accustomed to appearances at large venues, particularly in her hometown - the Windy City itself - Staples played with a stripped down, raw and swampy three-piece band and just a handful of back-up singers, providing a rare opportunity for fans to get close and sweaty with a figure who has led the musical charge towards equality and justice for the past five decades. Fortunately, the magical set was captured on tape, and now the rest of us can experience the righteous protest and joyful inspiration Mavis imparted that evening via Mavis Staples Live: Hope at the Hideout. "Anyone who was hearing this American treasure in concert for the first time learned precious lessons about where we have been and where we are today." - Dave Hoekstra, Chicago Sun Times

I am Bobby Pickett, bass with Cafe R&B on the Legendary Blues Cruise. I want to thank you. I saw two of your shows on the cruise and I just loved you. I also saw you a few months ago in Santa Monica on the pier. I was very touched by the story you told of your meetings with Dr. King during the days of the marches. I did not know that you were there with Dr. King. Could you please tell me where I might read read, or get more information on your involvment is the cause. Thank you for the lifetime of music. By the way I first heard your music on KOMA in Oklahoma late at night when I was a little boy in Texas. Your family and Rev. C.L. Franklin's family were my musical beginnings. Thanks.
