Max Chaiken has been a song leader and Jewish musician for about 8 years, and has spent the last five summers working as the Head Song Leader for the URJ Camp Harlam. Currently a student at Brown University, he has worked with various synagogues and youth groups in the region, as well as with Hillel both at Brown and other Universities in the region.
Between graduating high school and coming to Brown, Max was one of the students in the Carmel Program at the University of Haifa and the Leo Baeck Education center in Haifa, Israel where he first started to write original Jewish music.
After graduation this spring, Max plans to enter the world of Jewish music and Jewish music education full time, continuing to travel to various synagogues, camps and youth groups to sing and teach Jewish music, as well as continuing to write music that fuses progressive Jewish values, educational concepts, and social justice.
