Listen to our music!
Come see our live shows too, they are really fun. Have a drink with us afterwards. We just finished our first album, so message us if you want a copy!
Our music is written with the wisdom and experience of an old-man channeled through the pure creativity/insanity of a 5 year old child. Our shows include songs ranging from a variety of genres including folk, swing, jazz, rock n roll, blues, funk, reggae, waltzes, ballads, and pirate anthems, all with a strange sense of cohesion. Each member of the band draws in radically different influences and musical experience, but the band as a whole operates as one mind with a sound of its own.
The CD has been added to the playlist at CIUT 89.5FM radio, Roots Canada and New Music Canada playlists, as well as other campus radiostations. Call in and request a song!!
For Bookings, email at justin.ruppel@utoronto.ca.
Cheers,
The Cloud of Evil
"What do you get when you cram Monty Python, 1950s sci-fi ray-gun comics, Prohibition-era swing jazz and dark, wounded Chicago blues into the heads of a band of young Torontonians, then blast the lot of them into space to freak out with the aliens?
Something approaching Max Galactic & The Cloud of Evil, that's what."
"Max Galactic are young guys who are pretty sharp at what they're doing at an early place in their development"
"U of T sharp shooters who band together with a surprisingly brilliant fluency"
-Dan Burke

Great set at Clintons. The first thing you notice are the meandering clarinet lines, like something out of the Benny Goodman swing era. A nostalgic work of art with a modern twist. These cats deliver a bouncy swing-inspired brew intertwined with shades of rock, blues, and folk, resulting in rollicking grooves where old-school has become the new. These 20-somethings pull out the best from the past, combustive, foot-stomping, and full of character.
This is a band that rhythmically blends the traditional elements with a modern spirit, making for a hot-as-hell fun-filled good time. A high-energy swingin' live show bringing the audience along for the ride.
Hope you can make it out to our Clinton's gig Monday, Sept. 22nd 10pm. (responsible under 19ers welcome. $5) In the meantime, check out our myspace to hear our new demo "The Last Record Store". Todd, Carlie, Stu, Dave
That was a great set at Holy Joes. The dimly-lit lounge feel was appropriate, groove-based jazz-rock, swing for hipsters, or hell, for music lovers in general. Catchy toe-tapping genre-bending music that captures a long-lasting spirit, and makes it modern. Always entertaining.
That was an amazing set at The Silver Dollar. A great combination of rock and jazz, a collective of musicians that really know the meaning of excitement and having fun. Infectious energy. Nice turn out also.
