Sounds Like
"A little pot of honey, with a touch of warmth, in the eye of a storm."
This summer see’s the release of Maxi Dunn’s debut solo album “Welcome to Soonville”. The songs take you on a journey through many contrasting emotions, such as love lost, hurt, dreams, hope, friendship and abandonment. On its way the songs themselves follow the musical spectrum, from rock, power pop, country, through to ballads, and film soundtracks.
Maxi Dunn, and her band of musical accomplices (Midlands producer and musician Pete Hackett, and Spanish Producers and power pop duo Cokeroque) have put together an album for all seasons and tastes.
There is something here for everyone, from album title track “Welcome to Soonville” a dramatic, string filled gem of a song, which almost could stand alongside a John Barry film score (imagine Thriller, Suspense, Bond and Romance) and the heartfelt, emotional pop / rock song such as “Waiting to go round” which have great chart potential, on any continent.
But lets not forget the cheekiest of all little numbers, songs such as the terminally bouncy and catchy “How was I to know?” which tells a story from beginning to end, described as some as very intense but captures the listener into the scene as well as having a blinding hook to snare the listener.
Initial radio play, in Europe and America, has highlighted the albums potential to do well. There are not many debut albums which feature such quality and quantity. There has been massive listener feedback, with listeners wanting to know more about Miss Dunn, and her music. She has had folks flocking to her myspace site to listen to sneak previews, and leave massive, positive feedback.
Based on initial radio play, and the song performance and quality, it is obvious to this writer and reviewer, that Maxi’s “Welcome to Soonville” is destined to be a winner.
Strong in all departments (vocally, musically, song quality) you would be mad not to own a copy.
But also you know Maxi is a doll, who wouldn't want to wake up to this young lady everyday (you will know what I mean when you hear "Sinking In The Sand").
Buy “Welcome to Soonville” on release, it’s the soundtrack to your summer, and the next, and the next…..
HISTORY
MAHALIA - 1990-1993
Maxi started writing songs at the age of fourteen and joined her first band at the age of eighteen in 1990. First band Mahalia 1990 - 1993, were taken under the wing of Ruby Blues Manager, Dave Kitson with a hopeful release on his record label Red Flame. This never happened. Band parted company in the summer of 1993.
STEAL -1993-1995
Maxine joined her next band after having a six month break after hearing "Whatever" by Aimee Mann. Steal were alot more rock oriented than Mahalia who had been quite poppy! Influences. Manic Street Preachers/ Paul Weller via the boys of the band, compared to Maxines influence of The Fat Lady Sings, Jellyfish and Aimee Mann, they were very popular all over Merseyside especially Liverpool. But Maxine got itchy feet and wanted to move onto ventures new.
C S DRIFT - 1995-1998
At the time of the demise of Steal in 1995, brit pop was fully in force and the trip hop bands of Bristol were very successful. Maxines next band "CS Drift" were in the latter field. There infectious melodies/beats and solemn lyrics of Maxine proved to be a hit with the record companies, all ringing to hear there demos all through mainly word of mouth. This went on for a while, but still no record deal was forthcoming. Main Instigator left the band and the rest of CS Drift parted company shortly after.
BRIEF HISTORY 1998-2006
Spent the next eight years having my two wonderful children and loving being a Mum. I also trained to be an accountant.
In December 2007, I released my first own CD, "Winter Ghost". This was really a Christmas CD, which included a personal read poem by myself.
2008
The majority of the rest of 2008 from then on was bogged down with personal problems, mostly splitting with my partner of 14 years in the summer and more recently a love affair gone pear shaped, but I live to tell the tale.
Maxi, I'm listening to "Sinking in the Sand" and loving what I am hearing.. such a cool vibe, yet at the same time conveying all kinds of emotions, and the lyrics are very powerful.. another winner here! ~Laurie

Peace is not the product of terror or fear. Peace is not the silence of cemeteries. Peace is not the silent result of violent repression. Peace is the generous, tranquil contribution of all to the good of all. Peace is dynamism. Peace is generosity. It is a right and duty. In it each one has a place in this beautiful family, which the Epiphany brightens for us with God's light. - Father C, Romero 8 February 1978
