About me:

Praise for Maxi Kim’s One Break, A Thousand Blows______ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ “An extraordinary novel about Japan, which devours each book it references in a cannibalistic, polymorphous frenzy. It is a novel that tears apart narrative form, showing us in the process that narrative form still has new and exciting territory to explore.” -The Guardian__________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ __________________________________ “[A] moment of reverie . . . lithe, interweaving characters, geographies and time-frames so that we are often unsure where we are or in whose voice we are reading.” -Frieze_____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ __________________________________ “This thus is the sweetest of novels. There is nothing more traumatic . . . A reality that turns in on itself in a dream-like, beautiful way . . . an endless procession of loveliness . . . It is a novel that cares about its characters, all of them plagiarized, dreamt, stolen, duplicated, made artificial. Like Richard Prince’s anti-joke paintings, they are capable of the same resonance of something that might once have been considered the origin – a real joke – but they are parodixically enriched by having been drained of authenticity, or having gone missing.” -3:AM Magazine__________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ______________________________ “[S]harp, haunting and full of verve.” -New Statesman___________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _________________________________ “[E]xciting . . . inspired . . . Maxi Kim is there taking it up with incredible insight and volition.” -Mark Waugh, author of Bubble Entendre________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ __________________________________ http://www.bookworks.org.uk___________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ ________________________________ One Break, A Thousand Blows! is published as part of Book Works’ Semina series (No.2) edited by Stewart Home. The original Semina was a hand-produced journal published by the American artist Wallace Berman between 1955 and 1964, featuring Berman's own photography and collages alongside images and texts by both canonical and overlooked artists and writers._________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _________________________________ According to Feria Internacional del Libro Monterrey, Maxi Kim's first novel was chosen by Book Works' new Semina series because of its refusal to recognize the differences between fiction and non-fiction, high-brow and low-brow, and most importantly - art and life._____________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________

I've only read the book -- haven't seen the movie yet. Do you recommend it? Is it an improvement on the movie version of the Da Vinci Code?

Well, if Ron Howard does read my books wish he'd make me an offer! :))

Thanks for stopping by. Good to hear from you.

Its true..as the years go by, CalArts is losing more and more of its essence..what keeps it so different from all the other Art Schools...ClaArts Bob being banned..so many othe elements..the meth heads coming onto campus and causing problems..so many things. I feel bad for the faculty..because they were there when it was thriving. And now, the decline..the decline of CalArts. Lets write an article and pass it out around school..yeah?
