Maxime Tanaka was born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1979. His mother was a law student at the time and his father ran an uncle's restaurant. The family relocated to Montreal as his mother was involved in the Quebec seperatist movement. Maxime attended the University of Montreal and Indiana University where he studied composition and electronic music. He is at work on an ambient symphony, Wabi-Sabi, a sonic exploration of the elemental Japanese philosophical stance of "attentive melancholy" and its manifestation in all aspects of material life. He currently resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He works for a company that specializes in the digitization of musical scores.
