I'm drawn to the strange, unusual and exotic. I collect bizarre items from around the world, retired sideshow displays, and ghoulish momentos for my extensive cabinet of curiosities. The more shocking and outrageous something is, the more likely it is that I will find a place for it in my heart.
If you're looking to read more of a traditional listing, then here we go...Weight lifting, camping, Gourmet cooking, Adventure travel, Hiking, Comparitive religions/sociology, Anthropology, Humanism, Activism, Forensic Reconstruction, Criminal science, Cryptozoology and the Paranormal.
I always have a nearly endless stream of demented art "projects" bubbling around on the back burner of my brain.
Music
I really enjoy a pretty eclectic range of music. Contempory Jazz. Reggae. Ragtime. I like alot of traditional music from India. As far as more contempory fare goes... I like Cole Porter, Billie Holiday, The Beatles, Janis Joplin, Queen, Rob Zombie, Creature Feature, They Might Be Giants, Barenaked Ladies, Peter Gabriel, Elvis Costello, Dan Finnerty and the Dan Band, Tom Waits, Mojo Nixen And the like. If you want to get more obscure, The Ultra Lounge series of CDs put out by Capital are awesome, as well as novelty music the likes of which one would expect Doctor Demento to feature. Mrs Miller, Wing and The Shaggs make me smile. Truthfully, I'm not much a follower of "What is Cool" in modern music. I find that most of it sounds the same these days. Does that mean I'm getting old? Ugh!
Movies
Rather than give a list of what films and why. I'll just give you a quick sampling..."Female Trouble", "Shut Yer Dirty Little Mouth", "Pink Flamingos", "Bat Pussy", "Double Agent 73", "Double Garden (aka The Revenge of Doctor X)", "For Yur Height Only", "Mighty Peking Man (aka Xing Xing Wang)", "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark", "Please Don't Touch Me", "The Bad Seed" and loads of other cheezy exploitation movies, B movies and cult movies from the 50's, 60's & 70's. I love horror films and anything with zombies is a must see. I'm addicted to documentaries... (its a sickness) films like "Grey Gardens", "Cane's Toads", "Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey", "Paradise Lost" "My Brother's Keeper", "Crumb", "Abel Raises Cain", "The Yes Men" and "Capturing The Freemans" are always fascinating to me. Additionally, I am enthrawled by the following documentaries "The Dark Side of The Moon", "Forgotten Silver", "Alternative 3" and "Zelig"... but I've already said too much...
Television
Doctor Who, Strangers with Candy, Little Britain, South Park, Penn and Teller's "Bullshit", The Mighty Boosh, Monty Python, The Kids In The Hall, French and Saunders, Ab Fab, The Vicar of Dibley, Wonder Woman, Sid and Marty Kroft's stuff and any TV documentary on Cryptozoology and the Paranormal. I love shows like "In Search Of"
Books
Neil Postman's "Amusing Ourselves to Death". "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn. "Culture Jam" by Kalle Lasn. Naomi Klein's "No Logo". "How to Think About Weird Things" by Theodore Schick and Lewis Vaughn. I like all of Joseph Campbell's collected works. I tend to read more non fiction than fiction. I enjoy true crime, text books, biographies, and works on psychology.
Heroes
Eugne Franois Vidocq, Magnus Hirschfeld, PT Barnum, Alan Abel, Frank Abagnale Jr, Alan Sokal, John Lennon, Penn and Teller, Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno, Harry Houdini, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, James Randy, Andy Kaufman, Dario Fo, Robert Ripley, Nikola Tesla, Mae West, and The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, among many many more.
Hello. My name is Maxwell Drake. I value humor, creativity, and individuality. I avoid unnecessary drama in life. I try my best to have a positive impact among the people I meet and the world at large. I have nice teeth, am good with kids and animals, and when I fart it smells like roses. Ok, some of that stuff was a stretch.
When it comes right down to it I'm just a down to earth guy who is trying his best to offend the radical political right-wing, and over come his phobia of religious zealots.
As far as my career goes, I do concepting and design work for film, televison and the themed entertainment industries (theme parks). You can see examples of some of my professional work on my myspace film page: http://www.myspace.com/maxwelldrakedesigns
Who I'd like to meet: I'm interested in striking up friendships and professional networking. Tell me about who you are. Having a list of ten thousand myspace "friends" doesn't mean much if you really don't know them, so drop me a line. I'll talk to almost anyone. Just one thing... please no hate mail or religious dogma...
Hi Max! Miss you! Wish you would call me sometime so we can do Krispy Kreme or some other artery-clogging activity! Kisses to you both! Hope you're having a nice holiday!
