MayaFlyer's sound is psychorootsafolkadelic - imagine Led Zeppelin marrying Heart, having an affair with Mahavishnu, and then giving birth to Metric / Inara George / Sia. Combine that with indie rock pragmaticism and you've got MayaFlyer's slightly dysfuntional family (aren't we all from one) of ambient sounds, crunchy loud guitar missives to the pope, sensitive (slightly) puritanical fingerstyle guitar, harmonium, oboe, piano and more - all supporting a distinct female vocal lead.

There is different stuff here for those who are looking for a change. The description they use for their music, "psychorootsafolkadelic," believe it or not, fits. Although the CD is a bit difficult to pin down to one particular style, it is a magic carpet ride, high on the wings of Lisa Hirst's voice. --February 2006, Indie-Music.com.
Mayaflyer has created a sound that is comparable to that of the most powerful female-fronted acts in the last decade (Sarah MacLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Paula Cole, 10,000 Maniacs/Natalie Merchant); in doing so, they have become one of my favorite groups to hear! The band is a great collaboration of professional musicians that play well, write well and market themselves well! If they can just get their songs into the minds and ears of a listener, they are almost certain to convert that person to a fan! --December 2005, MidwestBands.com .

I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time yesterday. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.
There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a video of a tune called Run Bobby Run:
Blood Root Mother will be playing at Trocaderos in Minneapolis on Friday, June 26th. I cannot stress enough how awesome this show will be. We're playing with three of the sweetest local rock bands: Claret, Niobium and Casanatra. If you haven't heard these guys, check them out immediately! Please come to this show!!
I recommend coming during happy hour for two for one drinks along with free buffet, which is delicious. We'll be hanging out at Trocs all night, so come by and chill/party with us :)
Please come out and support some great local music! Music starts at 9:30pm and we should go on around midnight. Invite your friends, pile into a car (or a party bus), and together we will make this one of the highlights of the summer :)
We appreciate that you're doing your own thing and glad that you're our friend!
I wanted to share an insight that I had recently. Blood Root Mother really believe in the power of music. Genuine music transcends all limitations and boundaries, and happens when musicians and listeners are communicating with one another on the deepest level possible. In a society overcome by an obsession with flashy images and stale radio hits, we seek to do something that shakes the foundation of the status quo. Since the dawn of human civilization, music has been about sharing humanity and truly connecting with others. So stay connected with us, and join us on our journey.
Peace, Elliot
The artistic activity does not lie in art itself as such. It penetrates into a deeper world in which all art forms flow together, and in which the harmony of soul and cosmos in the nothing has its outcome in reality. -Bruce Lee
Charles Dickens began pasting labels on blaking pots. The tragedy of his first love penetrated the depths of his soul, and converted him into one of the world's truly great authors. That tragedy produced, first, David Copperfield, then a succession of other works that made this a richer and better world for all who read his books. Dissappointment over love affairs, generally has the effect of driving men to drink, and women to ruin; and this because most people never never learn the art of transmuting their strongest emotions into dreams of a constructive nature.
Howdy, we hope all is well with you and yours. We are playing at the Rock, in Maplewood, MN on Saturday, April 4th. It would be killer if you could make it out to the show. We'll be playing some new material that is going to be on the upcoming disc which will be released later this spring. It's an 18+ show!!! We appreciate the continued support. Reply back with questions. Thanks.

A little something about SwapBeats:
SwapBeats provides an online marketplace for musicians to buy, sell, and/or swap their individual music tracks, while collaborating and gaining inspiration through an online community.
If you're a musician, you should know about SwapBeats. They just launched (TODAY!) and are looking for musicians to build a community for musicians - Let's help them!
What's up? Just wanted to let you know about our charity show @ Hard Rock Cafe next Saturday (december 6th). We're gonna play some bluesy, funky music that's not on any of our recordings, and it will be a really fun show! Plus, it's for a really good cause. Hope you can make it out.
