"The trouble is that not enough people have come together with the firm determination to live the things which they say they believe." ~Eleanor Roosevelt

About me: Hola! Mayan Families is an organization of volunteers living in the highlands of the Lake Atitlan area in the small town of Panajachel, Guatemala, Central America. With your assistance we are making small miracles happen each day in peoples' lives. One child at a time. One Family at a time. Every dollar donated goes to fund our many worthwhile projects. We all work on a Volunteer basis. We work within the Indigenous Mayan Communities on projects ranging from enrolling and keeping kids, especially girls, in school, helping single parent families deal with HIV/AIDS, Malnutrition, Basic Health Care, Organizing Medical and Dental Clinics, Animal Rescue and so much more. MayanFamilies.org provides assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters. We do so irrespective of race, creed or religion. Our projects are varied but because we have lived and been involved with indigenous community life in Guatemala for many years we find ourselves able to respond in a personal way to the immediate and actual needs as they appear. We need your help, prayers and assistance! We are located in and supporting the various Indigenous Mayan Communities in the Highlands of Guatemala, Central America, recently Devastated by Hurricane STAN in October 2005.
Who I'd like to meet: Mayan Families Connection (Yahoo! Group) was started so all the people interested in Mayan Families' projects can communicate with each other about the different projects people are funding, the families they are helping, about who would be able to bring extra supplies when they travel to Guatemala, etc. We can share ideas about how we can help this worthy cause and let others know how much of a difference even one person can make in the lives of others with just a little effort. We can make family, friends and church groups aware of the needs of the very poor families who desperately need help. Maybe we can even connect individuals with each other who would like to help a specific poor family posted on the Mayan Families website. Discussing ideas and communicating with each other will help us all understand that by working together to help others we can make such a difference to those who have nothing. People who have visited can share what they have learned about the projects with those who would like to know more.
