"Song of the New Heart" OUT NOW
Mazgani was selected as one of the 20 best new European bands of 2005 by the prestigious French magazine Les Inrockuptibles.
Mazgani stood out among over 7.000 contestants of the Les Inrocks CQFD initiative, which aims to promote new bands. The 20 band final list was published in the magazine’s 15th of December edition, which included Mazgani’s original, “Unageing Games”, in the CQFD compilation.
Formed a year ago, Mazgani share a vision of music of contemporary artists such as Devendra Banhart – music as “a stairway to the heart”, a source of beauty in a world increasingly closed to artistic values.
As Shahryar Mazgani, the band’s lead singer, says, “The ‘song’ format is our universe of expression, surely, but we want to have a less conventional approach to this format.”
Although it is possible to discern influences in Mazgani – like Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake, Go-Betweens or House of Love –, “Unageing Games” confirms this band’s desire to tread its own path.
