M. Carney is a composer, pianist and accordionist from Wamberal, NSW.
Released in June 2009 was M. Carney's first album produced alongside filmmaker David Rowson. Entitled 'Tears Of The Candle' the package features two discs: A CD of instrumental compositions and a DVD featuring three short films.
Currently M. Carney performs his pieces in a 3 piece ensemble featuring Mike McCarthy on mandolin and Joanne Izzard on piano.
A large part of M. Carney’s composing is inspired from a connection with France. Since he first visited there in 2001 he has experienced great difficulty in trying to ward off impulses to return. Unsuccessful on a few occasions now, he always returns inspired by impressions, culture and music.
In 2009 M. Carney was successful in winning a prize for 'Best Composition' in Sydney's 'Get Off Your Arts' competition for his piece 'Misgiving'.
It's a gem of a record mick. It's been on loop in our car so I'm getting to know it very well. Straight up beautiful music. I really look forward to experiencing it live. Congratulations mate.
Just got the CD the mail. The packaging is totally fantastic - top class. Put the DVD on straight away and Sonya and I watched through the films - soothed and delighted. They are beautiful pieces of work, and such exquisite synergies of music and vision. Your music certainly finds its natural home within such films.
And the CD itself is just delightful - moving moody motions of melody.
You should be very proud. It's a very classy product.
