"mcArtney manages to pack more beauty and truth into his 2:00 song "Circles" than some artists deliver in a lifetime..." .... quote from - Rosanna Lee - Host of "The Deep End", KCSN 88.5FM/Los Angeles.... *Biography* .... In the early 90s Kurt Cobain attracted a flannel clad following of teens whose self-esteems resembled their distressed jeans. He also piqued the interest of a rosy-cheeked youngster from sunny North Queensland named Tim McArtney. Unlike other Nirvana fans Tim didn’t listen to the music to participate in a mass communion of angst. He did so because he was enthralled by the grinding guitar and mesmerised by Cobain’s power of conviction. At the age of 11, while other kids around him played sport or watched cartoons, Tim became transfixed by music. This early seed of obsession is not only indicative of remarkably good taste for someone so young, it also speaks of something that has come to define his identity later in life – Tim is a little different. .... These days kooky, charismatic and creative are words that jump to mind when describing the now 26 year-old multi-instrumentalist who spends most of his time treading the boards of pubs and live music venues under the moniker, mcArtney. His confident and friendly demeanour is contrasted by his thoughtful lyrics and graceful delivery – in short, mcArtney is a mesmerising force on-stage. .... Behind the cheeky grin and clever word play there lies an intelligent and passionate musician. mcArtney has been learning the guitar since he was six years old and has been writing and experimenting for almost as long. He cites two wildly different muses, Jeff Buckley and Miles Davis, both of which have had a strong influence on his music. mcArtney draws from the swoon-worthy Jeff a strong sense of lyricism and a deft awareness of light and shade; from Miles he borrows the notion of re-invention, with his constant drive to cover new musical ground. .... *Review* .... "Last to take stage was mcArtney, a melodic pop man with a light touch. Any band with a good double bass scores my vote, so mcArtney had me the from the get go. Extra points for inventive use of a megaphone and coordinated boat shoes. Tim McArtney's solo project brings together thoughtful lyrics, lusty guitar and a full band's backing. His indie pop is crispy clean, while dedications to his Grandma added to the good guy image. As he moved from instrument to instrument it was obvious that he knew exactly how he wanted his band to sound, and it wasn't a bad vision..." ....
