Meet a breath of fresh air in the hip hop game. Biyah whose history may read similar to many of today’s young black men is not like all the rest. Raised in a single parent family by his mother and grandmother he ascended into manhood without a father figure. The streets, his uncles and childhood friends became his solace until he discovered that he had a love of music. It provided him the escape he needed to free his mind of worries family problems and the pains of growing up. Residing in Seminole County opportunities for music where limited however, he participated in every local talent show and was a member of his school’s drama class because of his attraction to the stage. He finished high school early at the age of sixteen and left Donalsonville, GA and moved to Miami with hopes that he could jumpstart his career as a rapper.
Miami was left behind and Biyah moved to Atlanta which had became the music mecca of the south. He formed a rap group, The Roundtable. Their producer, aka Mastermind took them into the studio where the whole recording process came natural to this young hip hopper. Things took a turn when his group member and best friend Jerome was killed in a car accident. Biyah not only lost a rap partner but he also lost a brother. In an attempt to fill the void he joined up with several more groups but found that he would make it best as a solo artist. His partner in crime could not be replaced and things just weren’t the same.
Biyah, although a solo artist carried his friend’s memory and dream in his heart, “Whatever I do, I’m doing it for us. I’m determined to live out our dream.” Biyah concentrated on creating a buzz in Atlanta’s highly competitive music scene. He performed in various festivals and nightclubs throughout the city as he worked in the studio on his self titled solo album project. He also created the entertainment company ICEBOXX INTERTAINMENT which consists of production, event planning, CD duplication, website development, graphic services and promotions.
Hot singles from his self titled release “Tha Flo” “How I See U” “Chevy’z & Lac’z” and “Back Up” were played in Augusta, Albany GA and Dothan, AL in 2005. Biyah gained a strong underground following way before the release of the album. He took off 2006 to go back into the studio to record songs for his latest release which is due out September 2007.
What makes this young solo rapper different from all the rest is his philosophy of life. He spent much of his free time giving back to young kids as a guidance counselor and mentor at a group home and producing events for the youth by means of his entertainment company. Young people remind him of how it used to be for him when he was growing up. The message in his music is also different. He’s not afraid to speak on varied topics or to create songs with a message.
yeah,it has been along time. Just working hard and working on this music with my cuzo from o-town. I'm just getting started in it. It is crazy and wild. You have to watch your back constantly, but I pray and ask god to point me in the right direction.
