About me: Although we're named the "Multicultural Resource Center," more than "multiculturalism" or "diversity" we want self-determination and autonomy for all of our communities.
OUR MISSION IS TO FACILITATE THE BUILDING OF COMMUNITY AMONGST ALL OPPRESSED AND MARGINALIZED PEOPLES SO THAT TOGETHER WE CAN ACHIEVE OUR COLLECTIVE LIBERATION. WITH THIS GOAL IN MIND, WE WILL FORM A BRIDGE BETWEEN CITY COLLEGE OF SAN FRANCISCO AND THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. WE WILL CREATE COALITIONS AND CONNECTIONS WITH COMMUNITY SERVING ORGANIZATIONS AND USE THE FRUITS OF THOSE RELATIONSHIPS TO TEACH OUR STUDENTS TO BE INNOVATIVE, COMMUNITY-ORIENTED, SOCIALLY-CONSCIOUSLY LEADERS AND WHO CAN EMPOWER AND UNITE OUR COMMUNITIES WHILE SUCCEEDING ACADEMICALLY.
THE MULTI-CULTURAL CENTER WILL ALSO SUPPLY RESOURCES TO ENHANCE THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE AND AMPLIFY THE CURRICULUM OF THE ETHNIC, WOMEN’S, GLBT AND LABORS STUDIES DEPARTMENTS. WE WILL WORK ON CAMPUS WITH STUDENT CLUBS, STUDENTS SUPPORTING STUDENTS, QUEER RESOURCE CENTER, WOMEN’S RESOURCE CENTER AND OTHER GROUPS TO ENHANCE AND ADVOCATE FOR THE ACADEMIC AND CULTURAL EMPOWERMENT OF HISTORICALLY DISENFRANCHISED STUDENTS. THE CENTER WILL PROVIDE WORKSHOPS, DISCUSSION GROUPS, SPECIAL EVENTS, SPEAKERS, TRAININGS AND ACTIVISM MENTORING IN ORDER TO FOSTER AN INTELLECTUAL EXCHANGE BETWEEN STUDENTS THAT TEACHES RESPECT AND NON-JUDGMENTS OF DIFFERENT ETHNICITIES, RACES, ABILITIES, GENDERS, ECONOMIC CONDITIONS, RELIGIONS, AND SEXUAL ORIENTATIONS. THE MULTICULTURAL CENTER WILL ALSO OFFER RESOURSES SUCH A MULTI-MEDIA LIBRARY AND ART EXHIBITIONS TO ENGAGE STUDENTS AND ENABLE THEM TO LEARN ABOUT THEMSELVES, ONE ANOTHER, THEIR COMMUNITIES AND OTHERS WHO ARE GOING THROUGH COMMON STRUGGLES.
HOMEY is hosting a movie night on the topic of immigration, as the media has continued to do a blackout on immigration issues our communities continue to be terrorized by ICE and raids continue to happen.
We will be showing Crossing Arizona a film that documents existing struggles with migrants crossing Arizona 's fierce desert.
We will have refreshments and special guest speakers. Come and chill with the HOMEYs!!!

If you live in the Bay, you know that we've been struggling with violence for a long time now. Our brothers, sisters, friends and partners are dying by the hundreds every year, and city officials can't seem to figure out how to stop it. As of today, San Francisco has experienced 75 homicides this year. Oakland is at a disturbing 130 homicides. Richmond, recently ranked the 11th most violent city in America, is at 38. That means that in just 3 Bay Area cities, in less than 11 months, 243 human beings have been murdered. This has to stop, folks.
Please put the following date on your calendar:
DECEMBER 15TH, 2006 - 6:00-8:00PM
On this day, The CLAER Project will lead a movement of over 1,000 families, friends, and allies in a march and rally for peace on our streets. It's not just about our local violence, of course - the war in Iraq is not only killing thousands of U.S. troops and Iraqi civilians, but is draining valuable resources (read: your tax dollars!) from our local governments, and it's taking an extreme toll on our urban centers.
We're calling the march "Bringing Light Forth from Darkness", and we'll be marching through Sunnydale - the largest public housing site in San Francisco. Your presence will represent your commitment to those families left behind, to a divestment from Iraq and the War on Terror, and to a more peaceful 2007.
Please open up your calendars right now and block out the time. Then think about 5 or 10 friends that you want to bring with you. You'll hear more about it in the weeks to come! Let us know how you want to be involved.
Join members of Filipino/American Coalition for Environmental Solidarity and Women for Genuine Security in an action in support of Nicole, who was raped by US military personnel in November 2005.
This demonstration will be in solidarity with the Taskforce for Subic Rape Case, a coalition of women's organizations in the Philippines that has been working with Nicole to seek justice for this crime. The Taskforce will be holding a mobilization in the Philippines on Sept 16, the 14th anniversary of the US military pullout from the Philippines.
We invite you to join us. If you plan on joining the demonstration, please wear all black and bring any malongs that you may have. Part of the action includes laying for a period of time, so also consider bringing a mat.
Please support and attend!
