With doors open for business since 1958 and our famous concert series starting only a few years after that, there are entirely too many artists that have come through to list them all (actually, we tried, and this page used to scroll down forever!)
That being said, here's a quick 'comes to mind' list of now-legends that we're associated with (whether full shows or them hopping up on stage to play some tunes with an act they came to see, which certainly still happens): Doc & Merle Watson, Jackson Browne, Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Waits, Linda Ronstandt, Joni Mitchell, Van Dyke Parks, Ry Cooder, Roseanne Cash, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Fairport Convention, Richard Thompson, Ledward Ka'apana, John Lithgow, Mort Sahl, Taj Mahal, Ray Manzarek, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Tom Rush, John Sebastian, Mike Seeger, Merle Travis, Dave Van Ronk, Loudon Wainright III, J.J. Cale, Bruce Springsteen, J.D. Souther, the list goes ON AND ON AND ON!
...the younger minds would surely recognize the following: Frank Black, Cat Power, Jeff Tweedy, Beck, The Ditty Bops, Vagabond Opera, Ron Sexsmith, Kelly Joe Phelps, Liz Phair, Henry Rollins, Vic Chesnutt, Peter Case, Jeff Buckley, John Wesley Harding...
McCabe's is a musical instrument store and weekend concert venue in Santa Monica, California, opened in 1958. We specialize in acoustic and folk instruments: guitars, banjos, mandolins, dulcimers (both hammered and plucked), fiddles, psaltries, bouzoukis, sitars, ouds, ethnic percussion ... you get the idea. Also electrics and amps- all significant brands usually in stock.
We sell, fix and teach, and have all the stuff that anyone would need to go with, including thousands of books and recordings. It's a nice, comfortable place to visit and try things out. Come by if you're in the area -- browsers and itinerant musicians welcome.
McCabe & Camp's Guitar Shop: The largest selection of stringed things

We have rentals for the cautious, lessons for the eager,

"DJ Monkey …soul-stirring, excitingly edgy music…just disturbing (read ‘mind-f**king’) enough to demand attention. There is a whole spice rack of auditory flavors here, served up like fractured poetry on a collection of intensely listenable Hallmark cards from Hell." Bill Margold, Cinema Seen, L.A. X..Press
Joey Alkes of Alkes-Fradkin & DJ Monkey, co-author of the Plimsouls' classic "Million Miles Away" with Wife Filmmaker Patricia Cunliffe (A Language of Passion) on...- The LONDON GARCIA Show - THIS SUNDAY AUGUST 30 AT 3PM (PST)! http://www.latalkradio.com/London.php
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
Thanks for the add! We are the" original" Johnson guitars USA - Handcrafted in the Arizona! See us at N.A.M.M. - Just finished guitars for Jeff Cook (Alabama) & Alice Cooper!!!
Coming up, don't miss it!--The Doctress will host some new talent LIVE in the studio next Thursday where she will showcase singer/songwriter/guitarist Demetri Politis, whose quirky pop songs have been compared to Jonathan Richman, Lou Reed, and Weezer. His songs are sometimes autobiographical, but usually revolve around vignettes of twisted people. They have caused an open mic host to deem him a "troubled young man" and a homeless person to yell at him while he was busking on the Santa Monica Promenade. Come listen and give some support to a fine musician!
