How Can I Be Sure That God Loves Me, Too?
Taped live before an amazing congregation in Spring Lake, Michigan, this is Mel White's response to those who misuse the Bible to make outcasts of God's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender children. To know how God feels about outcasts, Mel takes a closer look at the life and teachings of Jesus (himself an outcast) who with all the Jewish and Christian prophets proclaimed God's special love for outcasts.
Heroes
Troy Perry, Mel White, Nancy Wilson, Diane Fisher, PFLAG, HRC, Triangle Foundation, Affirmations, GLAAD, Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott King, and all those working for equal rights and social justice in this world.

About me: Metropolitan Community Church of Detroit is made up of people from all walks of life. Our members and friends are people who believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ was, and is, meant for everyone.
Our Church is part of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC), a Christian church with a special outreach to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities. We believe that God has created all people, and that God has given each one of us a special place in the realm of creation. We believe that the universal message of the Gospel is one of love and compassion to all people, and it is to that end that we seek to serve our community.
We meet at 2441 Pinecrest Avenue in Ferndale, MI, every Sunday at 9am, 11am, and 6pm. For more information about our services and church events, visit our website. We also perform weddings and committment ceremonies, both here in Michigan, and in Canada. Contact the church if you are interested in finding out more.
Who I'd like to meet: Any members of MCC and any other LGBTQ Christians out there. Anyone who thinks that God hates you because you're gay. Anyone who has abandoned a faith that used to mean the world to you because you came out as LGBTQ. Anyone who wants to know more about God's love for you, just as you are.
If you want to find out more about Metropolitan Community Church of Detroit, or have questions about how you can be LGBTQ and Christian, then contact us through this page, or email us at mccdetroit@aol.com
ARE YOU (or somebody you know) ... a female with drawing skills who wants to embark on a serious tattooing apprenticeship?
We have an upcoming weekend artist vacancy here at Johnson Tattoo, and want to keep the genders as balanced as possible.
NOTES:
Drawing skills are the first priority. A traditional apprenticeship would focus primarily on drawing and the more mundane aspects of the trade for up to a year before you put actual needle to skin. This is not some cheesy "tattoo school" you attend for a couple of months before being given a fancy-looking certificate that proves your supposed worth.
Attitude and personality are crucial! We have a pretty low-key operation going, and our clients appreciate that in us. We try to function with as little drama as possible, and to appeal to the widest possible client demographic. Being level-headed and a "people person" go a long way. This is a working-class shop with a broad spectrum of clients of all shapes, colors, creeds and dispostions.
You have to be a self-starter and willing to struggle at first while you build your client base. It doesn't happen overnight - it takes a couple of years to develop enough of a client base to make a living. You have to be tough enough to endure this reality and to stick with it, anyway.
What we offer is an apprenticeship (free of charge) into what can be a lifelong career for the right person. In exchange, we would expect some loyalty to stick around and not jump ship at the first outside opportunity that presents itself.
The ball is in your court. Get your sketchbooks and portfolio together and show us you can draw. Then contact Roscoe or Tony through MySpace or the shop number (Wed. - Sun. 1pm - 9pm).

Seeking submissions for Postcard Project, Secret Gallery Exhibit- Opening October 16th
Our secrets play a profound role in our lives. What do you feel like you need to hide? What do you wish you could change? For many of us- hiding our sexual orientation or gender identity is still a burden on our souls. Others may be haunted by their past, or by feelings inside that society won't let them show.
Coming out with our secrets is the best way to accept ourselves and heal from our own guilt, shame and pain. And sharing them with others lets each of us know that no matter what we have been through, we are not alone.
This October Affirmations is celebrating Coming Out Week with a cathartic display of our most hidden human thoughts and fears. We invite you to share your deepest secrets (anonymously of course) in words, pictures or collages in the format of a 5x7 postcard. Decorate the front of this card and mail it back to us or drop it off in the Affirmations lobby. Selected postcards will be displayed in our October Secret Gallery Exhibit. All entries are anonymous and become property of Affirmations. For more info, contact Maureen Jones at mjones@goaffirmations.org.
Need some help creating your card? Come to our Secret Workshop on September 11th from 6:30-8:30pm
