"Back to ISGOODRADIO 's studio on Saturday to sit in on a noon show where Jon Hershfield interviewed Hip Hop artist Shane Hunter. This was a bit of a revelation to me as I've been exposed to no Hip Hop, but, as the interview revealed, Shane works in a classic Hip Hop style that has been nearly completely abandoned. I found his work inspiring and the extraordinary literacy of his words was surprising and impressive. It blew a hole in my musical boundaries" - RADIO FREE SILVERLAKE___ Los Angeles' Shane Hunter makes brilliant indie rap and has for a long time. He could give a fuck whether you buy a CD or MP3 or not, just as long as you recognize. The tracks "Scale 69" and "Box Kit" from the 'Mo' Budded Phat Jointz' 12" vinyl compilation (Rotation Music / Next Millennium 1998) were his first professionally released tracks.They kicked off a career that includes several label-released compilation cuts (like the "Effigy" Remix, hand-picked by graffiti legend MEAR ONE for the 'Reformation' CD he curated), a debut album (2007's 'Conditions and Shifts' on Rotation / Universal) and LOTS of time off (S.H. didn't even find out his songs had been released by Rotation until 4 YEARS after they were dropped, having spent the intervening years wandering around the Arizona desert). Says Hunts: "There is something dirty about accepting money for something I hold so fuckin close. I would rather people go rack CDRs from Wal-Mart and burn copies of my shit for all their friends instead of sending some company, who treats me like shit anyways, $15.00 plus shipping for something that cost them .75 cents to manufacture. Fuck that. Just realize that I am a great MC and a great lyricist and tell people so. That's all I give a fuck about".
