Childrens Art Exhibition. This traditional feature of the Meadows Festival encourages children to paint or draw a poster and use their 'pester power' to get it put up somewhere as public as possible eg Local Shop or Granny's front window. The posters read 'Meadows Festival 2009 6th & 7th June' and are by Sciennes Primary School pupils who like James Gillespies Primary School pupils in 2008 produced the 14 winners on our slideshow. When its working! Greg M and anyone else if you have cine / video footage of past Meadows Festivals we would love to have clips on this site.

About me:

Started in 1974 was on the first weekend of June until 2005 through sunshine and downpours then came back in dry sunny 2008. The 2009 dates we are applying for to the Council are 6th and 7th June. Also on Facebook and Edinburgh Gumtree. Some of the items listed alter due to unforeseen circumstances and the Meadows Festival Association does not guarantee attendance of any stallholder or other third parties. Children and vulnerable adults are the responsibility of a parent or carer at all times. Parking is very limited around the Meadows and illegally parked vehicles have been ticketed or towed away before so get a bus Lothian 41, 42, 23 or 27 or other buses to Tollcross or Clerk Street, cycle or walk. The Meadows Festival is run by the Meadows Festival Association charity(SCO Reg no 17116)which has its AGM in November. See Blog Reports for more details of Stalls Form & Regulations, Constitution and Disclosure Policy. The MFA bank acount is open for donations since the Meadows Festival costs about £20,000 to put on.

Who I'd like to meet:

We await the Council events strategy & management plan. The EAGM elected a new Management Committee on 2nd April and tweaked the Constitution. We need 20 Stewards and as many litter pickers on the two days. Other tasks include protecting the wickets and light or strenuous duties to suit you the volunteer. Local people are needed with spare time to help organise the event from now till June. Stallolders - write to Meadows Festival at PO Box 12758 EH8 9YP enclosing a stamped addressed envelope. The PO Box is emptied weekly. Or print out the e-form on our Blog. To help out on the day send us a comment or message about what your interest/ skill is. Supporters - Join the Meadows Festival Association by paying a minimum of £3 which entitles you to attend the AGM and receive any other benifits. It's on the Blog.

    Hello there,

Tonight there's a lot going on at the Flying Duck.

The whole spectacle starts with four bands:

Ming Ming and The Ching Chings are loud, fast, weird, they smell... the perfect ingredients for some powerful pop explosion tunes that make you tap your toes like crazy.

The French Wives send you into rapture with their sweet and catchy melodies, but not long enough to make you cringe, they will get you right back into the real world within some heart/drum beats.

Washington Irving's lead singer makes you feel at home with his charming Scottish accent. And home is where the folky pop fascination is.

    M. put some loud punky noises, some small folky sounds and harmonies into a big pot, stir it, mix it, and the result is interesting. And sounds good. Especially their cover of No Limit.

Then after you've survived and enjoyed all this, Jimmy The Asbo and Spuddbot v.3.1. will be choosing the tunes for the rest of the night.

    You better be there.

    December 4
at the Flying Duck, 142 Renfield Street, G2 3AU.

Starts at 8pm, finishes at 3am.

    Tickets are £5

    Sounds like a plan, batman.

aaaaah! Thanks for asking! The Meadows Festival is something I hold very dear to my heart. Not only 'cos I recall seeing some great local punk bands on the live stage in the very late 70s, but before that I was a finalist in the inaugural Primary Schools 5-a-sides competition which was in 1974....St Patrick's (my dear and long departed Alma Mater) were cheated in the final by Preston Street. I remember the huge crowd and going up on stage on a balmy Sunday Summer night to get my runner-up medal.

Christ, we had summers then didn't we? I later moved to St Thomas' Secondary and let me assure you the Meedies Fest was the ONLY place for adolescents to get their kicks...must've fallen in love six times in June 76 alone.

    Good luck and thanks again.

Hello and thank you for the friend request. I used to attend the festival every year when I was in Edinburgh right from childhood and it was always good despite the rain that usually fell! Unfortunately I am unable to be involved as I no longer live in Edinburgh but I hope you manage to get support to get the festival up and running again. All the best. Debbie.
