   About Me and the Grownups

Me and the Grownups have been together since November 2006. We launched our first album, Battling the Mountains, the Sky and the Sea in February 2008, and it will be distributed by Planet/MGM from July. Our backgrounds are diverse – Anita has her roots in singer-songwriting and traditional folk, Adrian is a jazz guitarist and Dreyfus was once a classical violinist and composer. Despite these differences, we are very close, and share an amazingly similar musical vision.

Feel like talking to a Grownup?

What the critics are saying...

As indie surprise of the year, this will be tough to beat.
Jesse Shrock
Beat Magazine

The Grownups’ debut LP is one of those rare gems that reveal so much more with every rotation…a record that cannot, in fact, be compared.
Julia Winterflood
BMA Magazine

Breathtaking, surprising, intelligent and soulful. Adjectives abound!
Jason Kenny
Drum Media Perth

This is no rock’n’roll, guitar/bass/drums trio, that’s for sure - in fact, they may have already achieved their aim after only a year or so of existence, of creating their own genre, their own niche... Its power to draw you in is what makes it stand up, as it’s not really my cup of tea, and yet I couldn’t not listen to the end.
Sam Fell
Rhythms

Whatever genre you call them, Me and the Grownups have an amazing sensibility for music as art.
Bronia Kornhauser
AJN Melbourne

Full of endearingly heart-on-your-sleeve tracks.
Matthew Heath
Canberra Times

Intelligent fun.
Rohan Trollope
The Age EG

Battling the Mountains... is a masterwork, a record of such penetrating emotion and beauty that its very existence [as a debut] is improbable...
Gideon Stone
SputnikMusic.com

Beauty, as Me and the Grownups perceive it, is the core value, even if that beauty can seem darkly uncomfortable. The rest is the sound, image and dreams of human frailty weaving together.
Michael Smith
Drum Media

Available from July 2008 on Planet/MGM.

In your eternal, unquenchable, inscrutable thirst for my ass, you neglected the innocent, virgin truth right in front of you. Your appeal lies in the slightly pornographic transformation of Harry, Ron and Hermione. That's the secret, thats how you communicate with an audience. You say clearly and without sarcasm that hogwarts is real and that we will live happily ever after in the profound, magical, mysterious depths of your collective voice.
James

You're the best dressed band in Melbourne. I want to see fawnskins, crowns of ivy and a thyrsus in Anita's hand next time.

Shout like Phrygians, sing out the tunes you know,
While the sacred pure-toned flute
Vibrates the air with holy merriment,
In time with the pulse of the feet that flock
To the mountains, to the mountains!
lola

You're so lucky. Self-respecting, unaffected, talented, pure and honest younglings.. I'm depressed. I hate myself. I only visit your page to listen to your music, because I could never afford the album. And then, appalled at the lack of comments, I spin some bullshit about this or that.. blah, blah de fucking blah

I must be slipping. No one is more capable of humiliating me publicly than myself, especially when a computer is near. I hope to see a few songs tonight, before chasing the tide. Your devoted shit teller, James.

Your toff gig. I would like to make it, because I will be in the state. Now, if you were honest, will you really start at 9 pm sharp? I have a prior engagement in Fitzroy. Naturally, I don't expect to pay. You could see my show, and drink my rider afterwards, if you ask no questions and do what you have to do. A complimentary pint of Erdinger stout, and I might post a bulletin about you, encouraging my friends to give up on the animal with a bone in it's penis (hence, a bone on), and go to see your shows instead. I suppose the question at the tip of everybody's tongues is the average prick sizes of the bonepalace and the grownups. Oh, Anita, you still don't know me.
But, would you consider marrying me?

I've been a terribly lazy fan. I feel like I've cheated you every time I missed a gig. Such horrible, irreparable calamities, these infidelities. A little piece of me died every time. I'm buying a CD next time. And an immaculate feast.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the add :)
I'll be coming along to your gig at the Toff hopefully, to take some photographs too if it's alright with you all?

I didn't drink my money away this time, but I couldn't get out of work. Since that particular evening however, I have thrown it all away once again. Japanese girls give great head. Adrian.. come and drink with me. How about a road trip.. I supply the materials we talked about (and cook them) and you drive. Anywhere, it doesn't matter. Love.
