Meanwell College is currently being stored neatly in a box, under a blanket, in a wardrobe. Benn Hansen has left our shores to take on the world, or more precisely, London. This is not an ending; like an old pair of socks, Meanwell College could become useful at any time.
Meanwell College is Ben Revi and Benn Hansen.
'Downshifting/Like Mushrooms' (7" + CD) is its debut record. It features 7" vinyl and CD in the one package. If you like (and if you have an Australian postal address), you can buy it here:
It costs $10, plus $2.50 postage. If you're in Adelaide, you can buy it at Big Star records. And if you're overseas, you can e-mail us. You can find the address at the end of the spiel.
Meanwell College has played with such bands as Even (VIC), Gersey (VIC), Laura (VIC), No Through Road (SA) and The Yearlings (SA). It has been filmed by Awesam TV for the Manhattan Cable Network, which broadcasts on 30 cable TV systems in the United States from Washington, DC to Sante Fe, New Mexico. It was one of the first ten bands in the country to be featured on the Triple J Unearthed jukebox. It has been labelled by Rip It Up magazine as "set to achieve great things with its debut release." Strangely enough, that said release is a meagre seriously-limited-edition two-track 7" single, 'Downshifting/Like Mushrooms', which (again as per RIU) "maybe... will be worth gazillions when [they're] megstars." And all since first gracing a stage in June 2006.
Meanwell College is, some of the time, a synthesis of erudite post-rock musicality and bittersweet pop charm. It was named after the somewhat unstable English boarding school in Louis-Ferdinand Céline's 'Mort à Crédit'. It is starting to become known for its entertaining and powerful live shows, so we hear. It likes to dance.

Hey! We’re coming all the way from Australia to play Japan, U.K Spain and The U.S. We’d love to see you at a show or two! Power Pop for fans of Weezer, Fountains of Wayne, Elvis Costello & Cheap Trick.
We Grow Up launches our 2nd album Night Kitchen on the 22nd of February at the Jade Monkey. Doors open at 9pm. 6 bucks entry. Early reviews of the album from Rip It Up and DB Magazine have compared the album’s sound to Crowded House and The Beatles. We will be supported by Jon Marco’s new band The Honey Pies.
Yes, this is a bulk message, but we still think you’re special… all of you
Hey Ben and Benn! Which one did we meet the other night? Thanks so much for adding us on here, great songs, I love it! Hope all is well :) Phebe and Harry
hahahaha.. such a void I leave, such as the one you apparently will be making for all manner of nerdly jokes on my behalf.. damn.. LONDON huh? fuuuuck.. what brought out that lunatic idea? the weather?
Just gave your new profile songs a whirl. 'Sleep Before Sunrise' sounds really good recorded, so much so that hearing it played live again would be a hideous disappointment that would make me leave the performance in disgust.
Now that I've seen the new songs on your page, I can decode the intricate trail of clues hidden in your comments on other people's pages. Very devious, Mr. Revi. Very devious.
BEN! I was thinking of you, yes, because I had 'BEN IN LONDON!!' plastered over the October part of my diary... a sad, single black line now strikes thru the once buoyant words.
Alas, it is still swell to hear from you. I've also been thinking of you, what with all the Jewish festivities that have been on this September gone! These, too, have passed me by and the calendar uselessly advertises them still. I didn't know what to do on each day - I didn't have my Rabbi Revi to source Matzo from the Adelaide-Jewish underworld.
Hmm, maybe I should have just emailed you. Too late now.
