About me:

It is the purpose of Pasadena City College M.E.Ch.A. to strive for higher education, an education grounded in our history and struggles, as a mean to self-determination of Nuestra Gente. We must ensure that access to higher education remains open for generations of Nuestra Gente to come. We must strive for creating and developing cultural, political, social consciousness, and an understanding that will prepare us to become the future leaders of our community at Pasadena City College and our surrounding communities in the North East Los Angeles area. M.E.Ch.A. is not just a Mexican organization. The term Chicana/o is a term based on cultural, social, and political consciousness. Therefore, it is grounded on a philosophy NOT a nationality. M.E.Ch.A. is inclusive of ALL RAZA (irrespective of nationality, sexual orientation and gender) that strives for empowerment and liberation of our gente through higher education.

    Quotes

Violent revolutions do not so much redistribute wealth as destroy it. . . . The only real revolution is in the enlightenment of the mind and the improvement of character. The only real emancipation is individual.
    -Will Duran

Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind... A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines.
    -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Where ignorance is our master, there is no possibility of real peace.
    -Dalai Lama

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
    -Mahatma Gandhi

Our greatest glory is not to have never fallen, but in rising each time we fall.
    -Confucius

Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?
    -Ernest Gaines

A man who won't die for something is not fit to live.

An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.

Human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted.
    -Martin Luther King Jr.

It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.
    -Emiliano Zapata

The revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. You have to make it fall.

We cannot be sure of having something to live for unless we are willing to die for it.

The life of a single human being is worth a million times more than all the property of the richest man on earth.

Yeah most definitely thank you for the invitation =) It was good experience, as a chapter you'll become even closer then you are now. Many of the folks on my friends list are M.E.Ch.A. de P.C.C. Alumni. That night of Noche de Cultura we finally got the programs into the folders as people were coming out lol

Hey whats up people? I hope everyone one is well. I thought I stop by and just drop a few lines. First off I want to thank everyone who came out to the MESA meeting today. Which brings me to why I thought I come by and leave a comment. As most of us are aware we will be hosting the next state wide. Todays meeting lacked many MESA members, and was really empty. I myself know that it aint realistic making every single meeting and event, but non the less we need to have priorities. Before you know it State Wide will be here, and we need every ones help, so in consideration please try as much possible to make it to the MESA meetings, especially if you hold a position. Peace Always -Lawrence.
