  • New stuff

Lots of new stuff coming down the pike. New albums: Logan Street is finally done and will be released on 04/03/09...It's good...maybe the best work I've done to date. And being released on the same night...a hot acoustic jam called Extemporania which is a collaboration between me and Dennis Preston....With the help of Eric Blades and Chara Love.

I've also put up widgets on my home pages (

) where Nahnah's Garden and Logan Street can be purchased in digital format for down load. Check it out.

  • Rita Iott

My mother, Rita A. Iott passed from this life on January 14th 2009 after completing 92 ½ circles around the sun. Born in Illinois on July 24th 1916, she grew up in rural Shiawassee County, MI and lived most of her adult life in the village of Deerfield, MI.  She married Orville Joseph (Rip) Iott on January 15th 1942. She was widowed in 1960 and never remarried. She had five children, 14 grand children and 6 great grand children.

She was a faithful (and often dissident) daughter of the Roman Catholic Church, wife, mother, homemaker, classroom teacher and peace activist. She held strong convictions, tempered by compassion, questioned authority often, and spoke the truth with precision and clarity.

Rita outlived all of her siblings (she was the youngest of 6) and most of her contemporaries. She was a source of wisdom and good counsel to a “family” that extended far beyond the confines of biology.

Her family and friends will be celebrating her life, offering visitation at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 West Saginaw, Lansing, MI 49817 on Friday January 16th from 5:30 p.m - 9:00 pm , with a scripture service starting at 7:30. Funeral services will be at Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church, 222 Carey Street, Deerfield, MI 49238 at 11:00 on Saturday January 17th with visitation at the church from 10:00 to 11:00. Services will be officiated by her eldest son Rev. Martin J. Iott O.P. and there will be a great deal of singing and laughter.

Rita lived well and died well, surrounded by her family and friends. We are sorrowful but not unhappy.

It was Rita’s wish that in lieu of flowers contributions be made in her memory to Sparrow Home Hospice Services, Sparrow Hospital, 1215 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing, Michigan 48912; St. Martin de Porres Catholic School, 1500 Oak St., Columbia, SC 29204 or to The Dominican Province of Saint Martin de Porres, 1421 North Causeway Blvd. Suite 200, Metairie, LA 70001.

    Much Love....Mitakuye  Oyasin!

  • Hymn For Gaia

Human impact on the life of this planet has reached a critical level. We have denuded forests,  polluted the air and surface and ground water, poisoned coral reefs and driven uncounted species into extinction. This is largely due to a predominantly western ideological mindset that sees anything that is not "human" as being a inanimate resource to be exploited.

Our tribal ancestors (from virtually all traditions) saw the earth as a living thing. In most cases, our ancient grandmothers and grandfathers embraced a spirituality that in modern times is called "animism"; the belief that spiritual energy permeates every aspect of creation. They embraced a dualist spirituality that expressed the need for balance between "Father Sky" and "Mother Earth", and indeed considered life to be the fruit of the marriage between the two.

The tracks on this collection are all instrumental and are meant to be a "soundtrack" to the emergence, maturing and marriage of Mother Earth (Gaia) to her lover, Father Sky. I chose the name "Gaia" (Greek) because it is easily recognized, but it could just as well have been titled "Song for Uncee Maka" (Lakota) or "Hymn for Weshimoneto" (Shawandase). The name is not as important as the concept. That being: the earth we inhabit is, both practically and mystically, our Mother, and is due our respect and affection.

    Hymn For Gaia

    1. Once She Was A Maiden Fair

    2.  Spiral Dance

    3. Gestation

    4. Awakening

    5. Discovery

    6. Contemplation

    7. Blossom

    8. Into The Shadow

    9. Frolic

    10. Passion And Embrace

    11. Processional
