The Downtown Medicine Mound Mound Preservation Group is now on MySpace ! If you've ever wanted to visit a real Texas ghost town, you've come to the right place. We operate as a Texas non-profit corporation in accordance with State law and IRS regulations. Making the trek to "Downtown" Medicine Mound is like stepping back in time to the early 1900's.
This place is too cool - an old general store filled to the rafters with real stuff from the frontier days in Hardeman County, Texas. Be sure to visit our new web store, too - we've got lots of cool apparel for both men and women ! Just go to The Official Medicine Mound Web Store and take a peek.
Our Board of Directors invites you to surf the new web site, check out the awesome galleries, and learn more about the little community from the last area in Texas to be settled by outsiders.
The Medicine Mounds are still considered sacred ground by the Comanche people, and are easily viewed from the Medicine Mound Museum. Our group is working hard to lay the groundwork needed for a succesful museum attraction, but it is no easy chore.
We've laid a great foundation, but our little non-profit group is in dire need of funding. We need money to hire a preservation architect so we might save the historic buildings, buy building supplies (Home Depot gift cards are most welcome), preserve collections, and digital imaging equipment to archive the hundreds of frontier photos at the Museum. All this stuff costs money, and we need our friend's help.
If you value the past and want to do something to save this little ghost town from being reduced to rubble, please visit our web site and JOIN US !
