Thanks to everyone for making it on time. Looks like we’re all here; can we get started? Our first item is a band called Meeting of Important People. An indie-rock-pop band from Pittsburgh, with a new debut record out nationally on the Authentik label. A self-titled collection of tunes about how it’s sometimes just as spooky in the suburbs as it is in the city. You follow? The band has been charting on the indie Itunes charts, and they've just released a music video with a crazy cardboard city concept.Play them the sample. Well? Haunting melodies over garage pop, mod-folk, even some dancy punk. They put out a single, “Mothers Pay More,” on a recent national Key Party sampler, and a lot of blogs and publications took note. The loud parts are loud, and the pretty parts pretty. You can stop the tape.We hear that the band started as The You in 2006, and recorded an unreleased LP with producer Brian Deck—of Modest Mouse and Iron & Wine fame-- for a subsidiary of Sony/Epic. That one went shelved amid the usual label stuff. A 5% bonus to any of you that find a copy. They’ve shared the stage with other artists you know of-- The Secret Machines, Blonde Redhead, Sam Roberts Band, many others. Pass me that water jug, would you? Look at the chart: a few of their songs have received heavy airplay on XFM and terrestrial radio and have been placed into films and television, even without having a full record out until now. We’ve got a few clippings here, too. Page five; blogs like the Devil Has The Best Tuna say that “MOIP crafts their songs from the purest honeycomb” while MP3Hugger claims that “the band will soon be breaking all the right hearts.” Right. And their live shows are full of guitar-punching and high-energy playing, the usual cutesy stuff: Here, The Pitt News writes that MOIP gigs are “a distinct blend of garage and folk pop that translates to an explosive show on-stage.” Hmm.I’ve got a copy of their self-titled debut album here…you will no doubt find it to be a unique collection of tunes that will get the young folks excited: songs about escaping from work early, punks visiting the local cemetery, waiting for your pals in the woods to do illict things, and so forth. Lots of characters in these that I just don’t understand. They’re getting attention from international press and are beginning to announce a series of dates through late Summer and Fall. I think you all know how I feel about this.Get me these people by the end of the day.

it's happened since the dawn of time
brittney lane don't care
brittney lane don't care
and it's all on a dare
and the reins are hers
the cure ain't taking
i'll tell you what you oughta do
why give it all up
if no-one's giving up for you?
brittney lane don't care
brittney lane don't care
and it's all on a dare
and the reins are hers
allison don't care
allison don't care
and the wind's in her hair
like at valley fair
anyway you gotta' be free
you're holding onto bottles
loves a girl he just met
but i don't think he will for long
that kid/ right there
he's the one who should be scared
that kid/ right there
he's the one who's got the stare
brittney lane don't care
brittney lane don't care
and it's all on a dare
and the reins are hers
allison don't care
sebastian don't care
stephanie don't care
blah blah blah don't care
hanky church.
we were out having a good time
running through the cemetery
we hopped on a grave and we flipped it
with the caretaker's digging equipment
yeah, we were all having a great time
we kicked through a floral arrangement
spraypaint my tag on a gravestone
and smash a mausoleum window
now we're hearing voices in our heads
we went to the doctor
and the doctor said:
"we're gonna have to put you on
something something
something something..."
now that we're on medications
and take assistance from the nation
our folks say we're all being stupid
maybe we're just losing fluids
but, still we're hearing voices
in our heads
we went to the doctor
and we did what he said
but still we're hearing voices going:
"something something
something something..."
i wanna shake the hand of the man
lemme shake the hand of the man
list-show.
we're all in a list-show
it's a lot of fun
we all wear a dick-splint
yeah, we wear it til it's done
we all watch a list-show
then we watch another one
you can't turn off a list-show
it's my only child
and we gather all the pieces
show me how they get around
let's all watch a list-show
baby, let's all write it down
yeah, can they all be wrong?
what a heist gone wrong
we're all in a list-show
it's a lot of fun
cos we've got all the answers
yeah, we got 'em written down
so let's all watch a list-show
til they get to number one
yeah, can they all be wrong?
what a heist gone wrong!
we have a way of
explaining things to you
one o'clock.
one o'clock can't come fast enough
cos at one o'clock
i'll do all the things
that i wanted to do
finals day can't come fast enough
cos on finals day
i'll move to the places
where i want to move
there's a time for it
but it's not now
no, it's not now
yeah, you're the one
who checks my grammar
friday night can't come fast enough
cos on friday night
i'll prove all things
that i've wanted to prove
dottie's death can't come fast enough
cos when dottie's dead
i'll do all the deals
i've been dying to do
there's a time for it
but it's not now
no, it's not now
yeah, you're the one that
checks my words and stuff
one o'clock can't come fast enough
cos at one o'clock
i'll do all the things
that i've wanted to do
one o'clock can't come fast enough
cos at one o'clock
i'll do all the things
that i wanted to you
dead man.
i'm dead
i'm a dead man
there's people rhyming
there's people rolling
there's people dying to tell me
i'm a dead man
i'm sent from a suburb
where we sip on our cider
we eat sheets of paper
and get the twitch
of the death nerve
there's people rhyming
there's people rolling
there's people dying to tell me
i'm a dead man
let someone punch you
and then you'll be famous
let someone punch you
and they'll make you famous
let someone punch you
and then you'll see checkers
we always listen to
the same old records
i'm dead
i'm a dead man
there's people rhyming
there's people rolling
there's people laughing
there's people bawling
there's people timing
there's people stalling
when my things don't come together
i'm a dead man
i know every street.
all alone in the company john
all alone, but i won't be for long
on a long way
she's about to touch down
i know every street in this town
every street in this town
if she's hiding
she'll be coming up burned
it's been a long way
since i made a bad turn
i'm a soothsayer
and i can't be too proud
i know every street in this town
every street in this town
you don't need lots of money
you won't hurt anybody
i know every street in this town
i love every scene in this town
i lead every beat in this town
i know every street in this town
mothers pay more.
come gather 'round
i'll only tell you once
my baby had
all of the evidence
and i'm so glad
that she can fill her lungs
but you won't believe it, no
i'm awful glad
that when we go on tour
i always know
my mother will pay more
but you won't believe it, no
days go by
and you won't get no fatter, no
pages flying
into a little pile on the floor
days go by
and you're as straight as a senator
but you won't believe it, no
days go by
and you won't get no fatter, no
pages flying
into a little pile on the floor
breezing by
everyone in town tonight
i'm awful glad
that we can go on tour
i'm awful glad
my mother will pay more
but you won't believe it, no
down in the hollow.
down in the hollow
i wait for my friend
it's been a long time
since it's been me and him
he's meeting me this morning
i brought a soda for him
i'm waiting for our turn to play
i'm waiting for our time to play
down in the hollow
i sit on a log
the sun's above me
yeah, it's moving along
he's late, but i can take it
i know it's in his nature
yeah, waiting for a turn to play
waiting for our time to play
down in the hollow
my hands disappear
and it's been a long while
that i've been sitting here
what if he's taken
by the baddies about?
and all the branches
they wiggle and melt
down in the hollow
i sit in the dirt
cos here, the stars shine
and no-one gets hurt
and now i'll never leave you
i'll sleep here if i have to
waiting for our time to play
nothing's going on.
nothing's going on
if you're looking for love
i ain't got none
if you're looking for fun
i ain't got none
and if you're looking for drugs
i ain't got none
and nothing's going on
nothing's going on
but there's a tunnel rear-end
accident beside me
and her eyes whipped 'round
and i looked in'em deeply
and for a second
i thought that she might have
been me
but nothing's going on
and if ya think i'm laughing at ya
think i'm trappin
then ya got none
and if ya think i'm grappling
and you've got nobody left
to thank ya
and if ya think i'm laughing at ya
think i'm trapping
then ya got none
and nothing's going on
