   About Meets Guitar
Meets Guitar is the singer songwriting band of Gavin Baker of Billy Mahonie, Jet Johnson, Glider and The Baker Boys.

Meets Guitar slowly began life when Gavin purchased a four track home recording system in 1997 and began recording songs he was not able to record in his main concern instrumental band Billy Mahonie. The simple reason being that these songs had words.

After a couple of early gigs supporting Songs: Ohia, Appendix Out and Hefner, Meets Guitar gradually began to build up a repertoire of slightly slacker-esque, acoustic country folk tunes which involved many strange and wonder open tunings. At the end of 2001 Meets purchased an eight track home recording system and began working up and laying down songs which would made up the first three Meets Guitar singles. In June 2002 Meets started gigging in earnest around the smaller music clubs of London.

These early Meets Guitar recordings were solely acoustic and were described as 'new folk'. However there really not much that was new other than Meet's own view of the world through songs. The tracks consisted of solo acoustic guitar, some singing and no overdubs. At the same time Meets began recording folk and old timey tunes with his father Dave Baker on mandolin and vocals and although known as the Baker Boys and havimg just released an album in their own right, their first recordings were featured on Meets guitar singles.

The first single, The Great Slip was release on Jonny Kane Records in August 2002 and this was followed before the end of the year with a split single with Tanus from Germany: When It Comes Alive on Bearos Records. The Third record, a six track EP "As Yet Untitled" on Beaclamed Records followed to some acclaim in 2003. Meets' original self help song: The How Not The Why became a favourite and gigs played in 2002 and 2003.

After a period of acoustic only recordings Meets, like any true Bob wannabe, graduated to his electric period. He began working with electric guitars, his wife Caroline Nesbø from Jet Johnson joined on bass and a series of drummers followed including Kevin Smith from Reynolds and Jet Johnson, Tom Cullian from Quickspace and Howard Monk from Billy Mahonie. His subsequent single Meantime for Homesleep Records singles club illustrated how diverse and charming Meets Guitar could be with the electric folk rock lead track followed up by a fragile solo acoustic piece and the traditional Northumbian folk ballad Felton Lonin by the Baker Boys. Meets continued gigging either electric or acoustic around London and the UK and also appared at the Homesleep Festival in Ancona Italy. He has recorded sessions for Resonance FM Glass Shrimp show and a few Student Radio Stations around the UK.

After a pause and relocation to Oslo, Norway at the start of 2004 Meets Guitar released a self titled full length debut album on Oof Records in 2005. Predominately electric it features some powerful and emotional performances and strong songs with fine choruses, the first End of the Band was featured in BBC documentary My Life As A Child. A short tour of one gig in one club in Oslo acted as the launch. Thank you Andy, Mick and Morton. Meets released a split single Out of Time with At Sea Japan at the end of 2005 and also a six track acoustic mini album entitled Canvas on Chat Blanc Records.

In 2006 the Meets Guitar side project: The Baker Boys was set free and also released a debut album, under their own name after several tracks released as Meets Guitar. The album "Driftwood Boats" is a heady mix of country music and folk music and old timey music. Also in 2006 Meets and found little time to play out and has concentrated on recording. A new album, "The River Turns To Home" is being release on Unabel Series 52. It follows last years mini album in being pretty much acoustic and chilled. Listen to tracks from the record here

I’ve been a music journalist for more than 10 years. Over the years, many artists and managers have asked me what the best way to break into the European music market is.

Here are some things you can do:

Publish artist press releases, news, and tour dates to the CountryHome Forum on MySpace, http://groups.myspace.com/CountryHomeMagazine , CountryHome Forum is part of CountryHome, http://www.CountryHome.de , Germany's Premier Country Music Online Magazine. Everything you publish to the CountryHome Forum will be published in my weekly Newsletter which has over 80,000 readers.

Publish artist interviews in English to http://groups.myspace.com/CountryHomeMagazineInterviewsEnglish , interviews in French to http://groups.myspace.com/InterviewsAvecCountryMusicStars and interviews in German to http://groups.myspace.com/CountryMusikInterviews . All these groups on MySpace are part of CountryHome, http://www.CountryHome.de , Germany's Premier Country Music Online Magazine.

Send me CDs and DVDs for review and set up an artist interview with me. All reviews and interviews will be submitted to the magazines I'm writing for. More information for which magazines I'm writing can be found at http://www.MySpace.com/ChristianLamitschka

Upload artist videos to http://www.MyVideo.de and http://www.ClipFish.de . Both websites are like http://www.YouTube.com and uploading videos is free. The websites are completely in German. If you don’t speak German and need assistance, I will help you open an account and upload a video for 25 Euro. Each additional video upload for the same artist name and at the same video website is 10 Euro.

If you have more questions about the European music market or about any of the information I send to you today, please contact me at Ch.Lamitschka@t-online.de too.
