WHAT IS MEGADAY?
Megaday is an extremely enjoyable annual live music event which
helps to raise
needed funds for the Velindre Hospital cancer appeal & is held
at Caerphilly
Rugby Club, Virginia Park, Caerphilly. (map)
Megaday Started in 1995 by the people of Caerphilly as a tribute
to a close
friend and fellow musician Andrew Nichols who lost his battle with
cancer. Andrew
Nichols was known to his friends as Mega (thus the name Megaday).
In August 2001 we also lost Paul Grahame (PG) to cancer. Paul had
played at
every Megaday with his band PG and the Tips and had also played a
major role
in the organisation of every Megaday.
This highly successful festival celebrated its 13th anniversary
in 2007.
Megaday constantly attracts huge audiences and has previously won
backing from
the likes of the Manic Street Preachers, the Stereophonics and
Catatonia.
THE SPIRIT OF MEGADAY
All of those who have attended Megaday in previous years will know
that it's
about raising as much money as possible for Velindre Hospital whilst
having
a great time doing it. To raise money for Megday you can take part
in The Megaday
Fun Run, The Megday Five A Side Football Tournament & also The
Battle Of the
Bands, in which the winners will get the chance to perform in the
Megaday Main
Event.
Although Megaday was originally started as a tribute to Mega and
PG, it has
also become a great opportunity for anyone who has in some way been
touched
by cancer to celebrate the lives of family, friends and loved
ones.
VELINDRE HOSPITAL
All profits made from Megaday go to Velindre Hospital Wales where
Andrew and
Paul were treated. Every single penny raised goes goes towards
cancer care and
research. Over the past eleven years Megaday has raised over
£107,000 for Velindre
Hospital, an achievement all who are involved with Megaday are very
proud of.
