"Independent" doesn't have to mean "mom and pop", but if it does, Megatunes is the coolest parent on the block, the one who knows a good CD collection when it sees one, which is why it was voted Calgary's Best Record Store.
Since 1988, Megatunes has been satisfying the whims of even the most committed obscurist, all while helping Calgary scenesters bypass Ticketmaster-style "convenience charges" for local acts. Even with the recent addition (September 2003) of an Edmonton location, the largest independent music store in the city still nurtures punks and hipsters like a good Calgary parent should.

I opened my doors on Sept 23, 1988. I have a sister store in Edmonton (she's sweet !) on the great Whyte Ave. I am located in Calgary at 932 17 Ave S.W. Inside you will find a huge selection of music. Everything from Goth Rock, Alternative, Punk Rock, Blues, Jazz, Techno, Hip Hop, Metal, Classic Rock, Folk & Roots, and stuff that no matter how you try just dosen't fit in anywhere. Megatunes also LOVES to help out the up and coming artists, local and independent artists by offering a store where they can sell their own stuff on consignment.
The walls inside are used to showcase framed Art, beautiful and sometimes very rare, limited edition "Concert Posters". Signed and numbered by the artists (Emek, Tara McPherson Justin HamptonLeia BellTodd Slater.
