Oh yeah with a stream of consciousness I come up with these for today: Joni Mitchell, Amy Mann, Leonard Cohen, Beatles, Eva Cassidy, Muddy Waters, Pentangle, Duke Ellington, John F. Kennedy, Rumi, the 2 Mary's, Ghandi, Martin Luther King, my grandmother - Phillis St. Clair Fraser, Star Treck, Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas, my celtic heritage, my daughter Laurel and you.
I'm a singer/songwritter who has been recording my own music for about 10 years now. I just released a brand spanking new beautiful new CD titled Let's Put the Moon to Bed, all original torchy bluesy love songs. It features Curtis Haynes on piano, Roger Kimball on Bass, Duke Levine and Mathew Stubbs on guitars, Sandy Martin on pedal steel, and Matt Taylor on Drums. It was recorded at Tom Eaton studios in Newburyport, MA. I see great times ahead for this music! I have 3 others (all available through CDfreedom.com) that really trace my journey from the time I left my marriage in 92. Funny I owned a 24 track recording studio with my x and hardly recorded a song of my own! I am not really catagorizable. Creating the message I use whatever kind of music moves throug me - folk, country, blues, or rock. I would say Moon to Bed, and my first recording - Crossing Borders, are the most popularly accessable. Moon is very blusey, kind of KD lang - or Amy Mannish with a Tex/mex thread, whereas Crossing Borders with my friend Leslee Preece, is very country/ pop /folk, as in the Judds. Voices and Open Up to the Spirit tell stories about my inward journey to understanding the longing I have for a deeply connected and embodied spirituality. I have played music of some form for over 30 years and always feel very inspired and alive in it. Being self taught as a guitar player and rather dyslexic, I have had the great blessing of having some great players to support my vision. Curtis Haynes has been with me for 3 of my 4 recordings and he is just a gas to play with. Humor, grace and passion are very important to me and he has them all. I write alot about healing the great division between the heaven and earth and spirit and body. Writting the body of songs for Moon to Bed was so fun because I allowed myself to walk into the vision of what I have glimpsed in the loving I have had through my life so far, and the longing I have for more. More peace, more extacy, more joy, I hope you all get it too. Happy trails, love, Meg
