Meg Reid is a fiery redhead from a small town in the western foothills of Maine, and at has been playing guitar for 15 years, which at just 21 years old, is an accomplishment. She has already made a name for herself as a serious and dedicated musician and songwriter. Originally from Cape Breton island, this displaced Canadian still holds the folk and celtic roots she was formed by but throws them into a blend of indie attitude and country sensibilities.
As at home alone on a stage with her guitar as with her 5-piece band, Meg is happy to do any mixture of the two live.
Not satisfied to be branded in one particular genre, Meg Reid and the band she plays live with (nicknamed the Glee Club Rejects) are as likely to roll out a Johnny Cash or Kasey Chambers song as fly into a Bruce Springsteen classic. Any music that's good is appreciated and absorbed.
Meg has always been slightly ahead of herself in ambitions; she graduated from high school a year early and completed a BFA in Creative Writing by the age of 20. With the Martin logo tattooed on her right arm (really!), she has been playing in bars and festivals for years, and has recently put her efforts to tape.
She has been compared to artists like Norah Jones and Patty Griffin, but keeps her sense of identity clear in the refusal to be put into any one genre. Her music is as likely to please a fan of Emmylou Harris as it is a fan of the Rolling Stones: it is as likely to please a 20 year old as it will a 70-year old. Her audience is fairly universal: if you want to hear real songs about the myriad ways people interact, you are sure to find something you like in her music.
Meg Reid has been playing music for most of her life and even at such a relatively early age she has created songs that move people and tell them not only about her own life, but about experiences that all people can relate to.
She looks forward to whatever opportunities she is given to continue doing what she loves. She is currently unsigned and actively looking for a record label that could help her make her music accessible to a wider audience while maintaining musical and artistic integrity.
