Saxophonist Mekiel is a native of Chicago. At the early age of eight, he became interested in music when his mom brought him guitar for Christmas. He played woodwinds in his high school band and his first performance was at the high school graduation. He studied privately in St. Croix. His first single record was ..Reggae on Pacific Coast Hwy." Not long after that he gained added respect in the music industry with the release of his album. ..Miles Away.. (a dedication to Miles Davis) in (1994), produced on his own label MekMuse Records. Over the next years he recorded, Simply Peaceful (1996) .. .. Shadows of Love,.. (2000), and his latest release, ..Hangin in the Moonlight,...(2005).
Mekiel says, ..While I was at the Moonlight Studios recording and I felt this was a great product because it sounded so great, I told the guys at the studio, I was going to name a tune for them, instead of using the original title of the album, ..Hangin,.. I changed it to ..Hangin in the Moonlight....
