I am Melanie, a 34 year old wife and mother who just happens to have a passion for singing and writing music.
I have been trying to get myself noticed in the music scene for about the last 6 years and now more than ever I am thoroughly motivated and enjoyong myself!
I don't even know where to start..................
I remember for years standing in front of my mirror in my bedroom singing and making up silly songs. Mainly New Kids On The Block. ( I am not kidding) Sometimes I sang so loudly, my mom would come in my room and tell me I could keep singing, but to keep it down because they couldn't hear the TV. Funny, huh?
As a child, I was very shy and very unconfident of myself, so unfortunately I never pursued singing. I even dropped out of chorus in high school because I was afraid to open up and sing in front of people. Now I look back, and regret that very much.
I believe that no one should ever give up on any dream they have. And everyone learns from mistakes, but you just have to take chances in life.
I have been with my husband since we were about 19 years old and we have been through alot too, let me tell you. Even though at times, I feel I could just slap him silly, if it weren't for him, I truly would not be where I am today. Thanks Robert, I love you for that more than you realize . He pushed me into singing years ago because he told me he knew it was all I wanted to do in life. I really needed that push then. He bought me my first guitar and a crapload of sound equipment years back and presently runs sound for me at events I perform at.
I started entering contests in 2001 and it was when I won a recording session in 2002 that got me even more motivated to stick to it.
I have won several competitions since then some of which are: Holiday Idol in 2003 which I won A trip to Las Vegas, The Colgate Country Showdown local level in 2005 , The most Talented woman contest, which is held at the Women's lifestyle show in 2007, Washington Cherry-oke contest in 2007, Rock Star in 2007 ,the Colgate Country Showdown local level and Iowa State level in 2007 and some other little local contests as well that I entered just for fun.
I have performed at many venues throughout Illinois and Iowa.
Some include :
The New Salem Country Opry, Bement Opry, McClean Country country Opry, McClean Country Fair, The Illinois State fair, The Taste of Chicago, The Tri-County Rodeo in Ft. Madison, Iowa, Alot of fairs and festivals , The Spoon River Drive, weddings, Christmas parties and alot of other places, but I don't want to bore you with that.
I have sang with alot of bands in the past and I am now currently seriously seeking one to be a part of. I want to from a band that sings country and also some rock and even blues.
In 2002 I started entering a contest called the " Colgate Country Showdown".
It has a local level, A state level, a regional level and finally the Final level where the winner takes a nice $100.000.000 home with them.
This contest has given me so much experience in this business and I have learned so much from it. I have been competing in it every summer for the past 6 years. Last year I made it all the way to regionals, and this year I intend to try to get that far again. It is a blast!!
I have also lended my talents to some charities over the years .The Race for the cure I did a couple years and I have also been involved with The March of Dimes , which is an extremely wonderful charity.
Most importantly, I am proud to say I am a St. Jude Partner in Hope and I intend to be one for years to come :)
It is so overwhelming how many other people there are out there trying to make it in the music business. I have met some incredible singers and songwriters over the years and I have learned so much from all of them.
Some have taught me how to have confidence and have fun without looking so nervous, Stage presence of course is a big one, but most importantly to just be yourself. It is so important to just reach inside you and find your true self.
I Grew up in Peoria, Illinois, graduated class of 1992 from Limestone Community High School and still reside in Peoria now with my family. I have a nine year old son named Bobby who wants to race bikes and/or cars for a living, so he tells me. He is a very sweet boy and I am so proud of him with his school work and he is just so loving. I love watching him jump ramps outside with his buddies:)
My step-daughter, Samantha will be 16 soon and yes, she drives my car. At first I was a nervous wreck, but I think she will be a very responsble driver. I love her as if she were my own and I have loved being a part of her life:)
She is so beautiful.
I recently have lost a total of 70 pounds and I changed my entire lifestyle in order to accomplish that. I know it has nothing to do with singing, but it is something that I am very proud of myself for actually doing. I have become a very active person and I work out almost every day, along with being a housewife, a mother and singing and writing music . I am happy:)
To sum it all up, I am just your average middle class woman who has a dream of making it in this business somehow or another. I intend to keep at it for many years to come.
I have wonderful family and friends (You know who you are) who support me in this and I thank them so much:)!!
I just want to make people smile and let them hear what I have to say in the songs I write especially. I somday want to record all the songs I have written, get signed to a label and maybe just maybe be heard on 104.9 the wolf. (HA)
But if I don't, that's ok..........as long as I keep on singing for all of you I will be happy:)

Hey there Mel!! I am doing great! Life keeps us pretty busy that's for sure. We are looking forward to the summer when then 2 oldest 11 and 5 are out of school and then we can come down to Peoria and stay awhile! youll find the link to melissas page on my page just click on her picture. however she never checks the dang thing lol hey we have a girls night out every other month if youre interested lets see its me, xuan, sheila smith, gloria jones, melissa friend, micki sellers, theresa stone, jenny romack, sarah taylor, and a couple of others i think we usually go to someones house eat and visit for a couple of hours just for a change of scenery and a break from our families. i will be posting soon when we are meeting. i dont like to think its been almost 20 years because i still feel like i did when i was in high school (on a really good day lol) yes i still work at cvs but im almost done with school so i will hopefully be movig to nashville, tn after next year and working for vanderbilt hospital im sick of illinois im ready for something different and i really love the nashville area. anyway im glad you got in touch with me. please think about coming to girls night out its alot of fun!
