Sounds Like
If Joni Mitchell grew up listening to Patsy Cline and Judy Garland...
Singer/musician/actor Melanie Joy Hall brings natural warmth and openness to her music. By turns sweet and sultry, her strong alto voice slides smoothly from folksy classics to jazz standards to rootsy rock. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, into a creative, musical family (father Gary is a professional musician, while mother Linda is a talented visual artist with an ear for harmony), Melanie’s been singing for most of her 26 years. Piano came naturally at an early age, followed closely by choir-singing, flute-playing, and eventually guitar-picking. Through college and her early 20s, Melanie worked almost exclusively in musical theater: acting, singing, and playing piano with theater companies all over the U.S., from New York City to South Carolina to Denali Park, Alaska. In January 2007 she moved to Portland, Oregon to take advantage of the creative atmosphere and thriving live music scene there. She continues to spend her summers in Alaska.
Melanie’s first CD, “Falling to the Moon”, includes original songs by Melanie and Gary Hall, as well as new versions of songs by Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan, Stephen Sondheim, Dolly Parton, and others. It features acoustic and electric guitars by Gary, piano by Melanie, and backup vocals by the whole family. “Falling to the Moon” is available now through CDBaby.com and iTunes.
Wow! You are amazing! I love it, all of it! Why did I not know you had this in you while you were here? Guess I didn't really get to spend enough time with you. P.S. Ryleigh Ruth was born September 14, 2007. She is amazing. Giving her life is the reason I was put on the earth.
