It’s a great timing for Indonesian rock music lovers! After so many years the music scene has been invaded by any shape of singer (male or female) singing song about cheatings, affairs, and so on and so on to as the only way to get to the top of the industry. Like it or not, they have to turn their head to this Female solo vocalist who’s known as a person who will say things the way it is, no matter what people think. Maybe that’s also the reason of her getting a contract to stand under “ Pulau Biru” Management, owned by Indonesian legendary band Slank, who also allow her to recycle their song which never happens in history before.
After winning the title “BEST SOLO FEMALE / MALE ROCK SINGER” from the AMI Award this year, now again she is nominated for more or less the same category in the IKON ASEAN Award 2008 which will be joined by musicians from many other countries in Asean. Maybe the rock image that’s been with the girl who owns many tattoos on her body that gives her the offer to collaborate with another Indonesian Rock band (PAS band) in their now song called “PARIS ”
In her busy touring days that sometimes allow her to see Jakarta for only 2 or so days in a week, she still commits to her care about going around the country to teach people to read and campaigning about female rights that she feels is very necessary in her country.
Since last May, Melanie who’s already released a book about her experiences working as Personal Assistant for many international artists (from legendary to new comers), is in the middle of translating her book that she hope can be released outside Indonesia. She was also just appointed as the ambassador of the anti-drugs campaign, and going to schools around Indonesia with Samsung. All those activities still left her some energy to be one of the bands that will be performing at the Singfest 2008, a chance that no Indonesian band ever had before. And for the first time too, she will be performing all of her original English songs (www.singfest.sg). For that or another reason that she don’t even know, gives her another 2 offers to play at another international festivals outside Indonesia in 2009.
Even though Melanie herself thinks to Indonesian music industry are not really able to appreciate “real music”, but seeing the numbers of MELOVERS (the name of her fans community), shows the other way around. And in her next project, her lyrics will be talking again about female rights and many female issue that she feels unfair around her. And she wont care what people will think about her, as long as she can still be honest, that’s more than important to her.
