I think it's time I re-wrote this little bio thing, fresh new year, fresh new mind and all!
What do I do? Well the simple answer is PR, I look after brands, mostly fashion labels and I take care of www.lovetodress.com as well, so you could say I have my hands full. I share a beautiful loft style office in the heart of London's Brick Lane, what was once the official fashion district of London and there's something nice about coming down here to work versus the nutty west end.
How did I get here? I'll give you the condensed version...I didn't go down the degree route, purely because I had not figured out what I wanted to do, all I knew was I wanted to work in the music industry behind the scenes (no Pop Idol singing tendancies here). With a bit of the gift of gab I blagged my way into journalism which led me to online reporting and off camera TV interviews with the likes of Usher and Wyclef for CD:UK. Many a happy memory from my time spent at the TV studios in Waterloo at the butt-crack of dawn on a Saturday morning chasing Sisqo down with a dictaphone!
Then I interviewed Kwame Kwaten of D-Influence Productions and the Urban Music Seminar, he gave me a job and that was probably the happiest 3 years of my life. I flew to Cannes, Paris, LA and my little life changed immeasurably. I saw what was possible when you have limitless ambition...absolutely anything is achievable. If you'd have told the younger me whilst I was working manual labour on a farm that I'd be in a frock at the Grammy Awards in LA I would have laughed and thrown horse sh*t at you!
When I left D-I/UMS I moved to New York, landed a job with a top black mogul and worked in Times Square and lived all over the place - Brooklyn, Harlem, New Jersey (never again!)East Village, Times Square. It was definitely a tough and defining experience, I loved it and it shaped me in business and life experience and in equal amounts it was liberating and yet unhappy being so far from my friends and family - I had moved countries without knowing a single person there. I left my non-fancy paper pushing position in the fancy company, had some interviews for other jobs with Jay-Z and Sony Publishing, neither came through and as Christmas 05 came I wasn't sure what to do. That's when I landed Damon Dash as a client and didn't look back, he gave me a chance and as we flew through Tribeca in his Maybach sealing the deal on a handshake he said 'Dont f*ck up kid' and I came home and started Melian Enterprises. It taught me how to build great relationships, and do strong work on my own.
Fast forward two years to now and Melian is ticking over happily, it's all a work in progress and it's all about growing, evolving and changing and staying happy which I strive for with each new day. I feel it's time for more now, there are some new things in the pipeline which I can't wait to reveal, soon!!
Melian Enterprises PR, is home to Award Winning British Designer Walé Adeyemi and his high street collaboration Wale Adeyemi for Miso (available at Republic Stores), sought after British boutique labels Chandelier & To Love Kuvaa, www.lovetodress.com and finally Kung Fu inspired label DrunknMunky clothing.
