My band, The May Nots, changes as various folks do their various things, but these fine gents have been the staples over the past couple of years:
Tony Wilson - guitar
Craig McCaul - guitar and bass
Shawn Killaly - hits stuff.
Influences
Mahalia Jackson, Radiohead, Etta James, watering, The Frames, heaviness, me, Kelly Joe Phelps, travelling, introspection, things that make me laugh, stories, the good times, the dark times, Tony Wilson, P.J. Harvey, the large questions that no one can really answer, the weather, The Pixies, music with no words, kickass lines, quiet and excellent touques.
Melisa Devost writes introspective songs which topics range from romance, gratuity and love lost to the role of raising children in the current climate to the super hero alter ego. Devost weaves these tails of woe and whoa! into rich folk-pop songs rooted in traditions of country-blues and gospel.
Her latest record, A Sudden Shift of Existing Light, due out in May 2009, is a tasty mix of imagery laden poignant lyrics and sweet and low-down finger-style guitar wrapped up in Melisa's dynamically beautiful voice. She is joined on this recording by many guests, including Leah Abramson, Kent McAlister and Ken Whiteley.
