Welcome and thank you for visiting my Breast Cancer 3 Day Page! This will be my 4th year participating in the Breast Cancer 3 Day. The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust, funding important breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment.
I signed up for my first Breast Cancer 3 Day in 2004 and it has changed my life completely. That first year I didn't know anyone personally affected by Breast Cancer, but did watch my dad battle cancer. As I experienced that I knew I wanted to get involved with an event supporting cancer research, but wanted it to be something challenging. 60 miles is pretty challenging. Especially for a very timid, shy 24 year old. I knew it would bring me out of my shell and give me that purpose that I was looking for in my early 20's. It did that and than some! The experience and friends well more like family Ive met on this event truly is amazing. So amazing, words almost can not express how great it is :)
I met an amazing group of woman that first year, and I feel extremely lucky to have them in my life. Two of those woman at that time were survivors. Becky and Dawn. Unfortunately Dawns cancer came back shortly after the walk that first year, and she just lost her battle this past January. The last few months have been some of the hardest, most emotional months of my life. Dawn truly touched every one in her life, and her legacy will live on. This walk is dedicated to both of those woman, and all woman out there. I do this for all of you. So no one will have to experience what I have been going through. I walk because I believe one day we will have a world without Breast Cancer!
Last years walk was my best walk physically. I literally thought I could walk another 60 miles when I was done! Crazy, eh? I met a woman on last years walk, Jen. I swear this woman is my long lost twin. I was so happy we fell upon each other at a training walk. I truly believe we were meant to meet that day, and it was wonderful to experience last years walk with someone so passionate about this event. She has been a blessing to have in my life! She is quite the overachiever like me, and we trained our butts off. It paid off since we both felt amazing during and after the event. Being so well trained, I was able to connected on an emotional level I never did in the previous years. And now I want more than just one event in one year. I want that 3 day feeling to last a little longer. So Jen and I have decided to walk in TWO cities in 2008. I told you we were overachievers, and sole mates.:p Get it, sole, like on your shoes. tee hee. Okay I wont quit my day job. Anyhoo,we will be walking in Boston on August 15-17th, and than in Michigan on September 26-28th. So that is $4400, and 120 miles, but since we have taken this on as a team it really is $8800! We have some great fundraising events planned and I know that goal will surely be met. This is going to be a great year. Im so excited!!!!
Ive made this special place to track fundraising events, training, thoughts, emotions, and everything in between. Please check back often. :)
P.S If you have 15 minutes you should check out the video to the left. Its a great glance into the 3 Day world, and why I and so many others take on the challenge of 60 miles in 3 days.
Thanks again for stopping by!
XO
Melissa
