Born and raised in Southern California, Melissa graduated from a private university in 2001 with a B.A. in Communications, with an emphasis in Electronic Media Production, and a Minor in Music. She began writing songs at the age of 14 when assigned her first poetry writing and noticed what was written was in song structure. Performing since the age of 4 and always attending private voice lessons, Melissa later went on to be classically and operatically trained. It was in her eclectic musical tastes and songwriting style that her originality shone through with the writing of each song. She has performed in Los Angeles and surrounding areas for the past few years; venues abroad to come…
Melissa was a featured artist at Chick Singer Night in Hollywood, CA in 2002, where she captured the hearts of her audience. In every performance, she magically draws you in, as you begin to listen attentively to her thought provoking words and her perfect pitch delivery. Not only will you be captivated by Melissa’s voice but her determination to continue to create and perform. Melissa holds on tightly to her devotion to her craft, as expressed in one of her songs, “…my calling is calling me.”
In the early days of Melissa’s musical career, she and her band were performing three times a week and everybody was having a great time. It has taken time and maturity to learn the “ropes of the industry” and properly direct priorities. While performing mostly acoustic shows with an amazing pianist, Noel Melanio, for most of 2004 and all of 2005, Melissa began to grow as an artist and during said time began the process of recording her debut album, “HONEYBEE”. Recording this album was a learning experience, to say the least; working with (at the time) unfamiliar musicians, forming new bonds, getting comfortable in the studio and finding it to be a place that provided a sense of accomplishment. “HONEYBEE” has received great reviews (see: PRESS) and a lot of air time at URRADIO.com.
During 2005, while in the final stages of packaging her debut album, Melissa spent a few months back in the studio, working with a new group of musicians, as well as a new producer. The new songs that came from these sessions have received overwhelming praise and glowing reviews from friends and fans on MySpace, GarageBand, IndiEclectic and so on. The ever-growing songwriting maturity and strength that Melissa has shown in the last 2 years, proves that life’s lessons and experiences, are consistent in that they always provide fodder for creative expression.
In January of 2006, Melissa released “HONEYBEE” and has since been successful as a CDBaby artist, with both online and digital distribution (iTunes and otherwise), as well as some local distribution in various Los Angeles record stores such as Amoeba Music. Melissa has continued to perform live all over Los Angeles, sometimes in an intimate acoustic setting and sometimes rockin’ the house with a full band. She performed on Hunnypot Radio in the beginning of ’06 and continues to remain a part of the Hunnypot family.
In October of ’06, based on Melissa’s CD, “HONEYBEE”, she was named BEST OVERALL SONGWRITER 2006 by All Access Magazine. Getting back into the studio in November, Melissa will again add new music to her repertoire and in addition, will be laying down an acapella version of a hit song from the early 90’s that Melissa holds close to her heart and wants to sing the way she’s always felt it was intended to be sung. With 2007 on the horizon, what’s next on the roster is a music video, which will be included as a DVD in Melissa’s next album release. Stay tuned…
