Melissa Evans is a singer /songwriter from South East Queensland. Her voice is unique and her music is unforgettable.
Melissa started singing when she was 4, and although it was just to the chooks on the farm, she believes they were the perfect audience her first paid gig, 3 warm fresh eggs. In high school Melissa was inspired by her year 12 English teacher to write poetry. It was from there that she traded her student model trumpet in for a steel string guitar and started her love affair with songwriting.
Playing solo at first, Melissa supported local Brisbane acts, such as Spot the Dog, then moved on to form the duo JUTE with Anjela Iltners in 1993. The two were a great success and were instrumental in the live music scene for playing only original music. Anjela moved on to sound recording and still works with Melissas current band Florences balcony - recording their two albums to date,No Ordinary Life and Fine Lines, Melissa says, Fronting Florences balcony has been a great experience." They have performed for audiences all over Australia, supported artists such as Vika and Linda Bull and continue to flourish on the Brisbane live music scene.
2006 sees Melissa take the solo road. She is all set for the new challenges while still maintaining the flow with Florences balcony. Already this year Melissa has played to packed houses including Brisbanes Premier womens venue The Mint Cocktail Bar and the annual Brisbane Pride Festival.
Melissa, has been songwriting for just on 20 years perfecting the art and sculpting every song with fine precision. She is an observer of Life. Melissa has captivated audiences for over a decade with her insightful lyrics. Many comparisons have been made but she is truly an individual. Her writing talents are only equalled by her delivery a charismatic performer who inspires others.
